Trudy Edvalson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 17 to May 18, 2012.
Nov. 4, 1925~May 16, 2012
Ray returned to bring his sweetheart home on Wednesday, May 16, 2012.
Trudy was born to Elias L. and Gertrude Van Leeuwen Day, their only daughter, and sister to William H. Day and John M. Day. She graduated from the University of Utah and had a wonderful career educating young minds in kindergarten for the Salt Lake School District. She and Ray met while attending the University, and were married on November 26, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple. Trudy served in many callings in the LDS church, including secretary for the Sunday School and Mutual, and compassionate service coordinator. She and Ray supervised countless funeral meals and faithfully printed and mailed the ward newsletter for many years in the Highland Park Ward. Although health concerns prevented them from serving a full time mission, they sent their testimonies in hundreds of copies of the Book of Mormon for distribution in the mission field. They contributed financial support to each grandchild serving a mission and also many others who needed assistance. She spent her life in loving service to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She leaves a legacy of love and service for all of us to follow.
Preceded in death by her sweet husband Raymond, her parents, and younger brother John. She is survived by her daughters: Trudy (James) Adams, Joanne (Jim) Fraser, Carrol (David) Glade; 16 grandchildren, 41 great grand children, and her brother William H. (Nancy) Day and sister-in-law Margret Day.
Funeral Services will be Saturday May 19, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Bennion Heights Ward, 3555 West 5620 South, Taylorsville. Viewings will be Friday 7-9 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive, and 11:45-12:45 prior to funeral services on Saturday at the church.

Mrs. Edvalson was my kindergarten teacher at Hawthorn Elementary. She was a wonderful teacher and I have fond memories of her classroom. My deepest sympathies to her family.

Ray and Trudy were wonderful friends and neighbors. We lived across the street from them for over a decade. The were always concerned about our spiritual well-being and had a great impact on our lives. We will never forget their love and service to our family.

Sorry to see this but at least she can be at peace now along with Ray and other family members.

May the peace and assurance of love from the Savior be yours as you experience the loss of your faithful sister, mother, grandmother or great grandmother. No one has done more than Trudy to bind the hearts of the extended Van Leeuwen family members on both sides of the veil.

Oh how we miss our Grandma! She taught us through word and deed throughout her life. We will forever cherish the memories of M&M's and 'spicies', butterflake rolls, green jello salad, Wendy's, white glove room inspections, East Canyon, birthday serenade, birthday dinners, games of canasta, Chuck-A-Rama, Sugarhouse fireworks, singing 'Let us oft speak kind words to each other!' when we were fighting with our siblings, fresh raspberries, and so much more! Thank You for the legacy of love and faith you have given us! We love you! ~ Becky & Weston

Trudy and Ray and their daughters Trudy, Joanne, and Carrol were great friends and neighbors of ours in the Highland Park Ward. Ray was a teacher of ours at East High and a beautiful mountain scene painting of his adorns our home in payment for piano lessons given to Trudy, Joanne, and Carrol.

We send our sympathy.
