I met Twyla one day while walking from the subway to the Federal Building in Pittsburgh where we both worked. The pigeons were all over the sidewalk that morning and we had to kick at them to get through them - we didn't actually kick any, but one almost collided with my foot. I don't remember what she said, but her words began an almost three year close friendship. We'd take breaks together in the cafeteria. One day I called her number to go on break and the person who answered told me of Twyla's cancer and that she was no longer working there. I had no way to get a hold of her, as I didn't have her home phone number. I was reassigned and life went on. I've often thought of Twyla over the years and wondered how she fared with her diagnosis. I was very saddened to come across her obituary today and am berating myself for not trying harder to stay in touch. She was a wonderful person and friend. I miss her.

Bob, Jen & RJ,-I had no idea Twyla was sick again. I'm so so sorry. She was my cousin, but I know she's now at peace and out of pain. I will miss her complaining emails, that I got such a laugh at. We had last discussed our class reunion-she told me to go & take notes...souunded just like her. She will not be forgotten.

Bob I was stunned to hear about Twyla. I know she has struggled for so long with the cancer but we are never ready when the end comes.
She helped me in my first years of teaching at St. Joseph. Her smile and hugs will be missed. We are all richer for knowing her and poorer with her passing. May God's healing hand touch you in this difficult time.
