Tyler was my cousin. Just found out today about his passing. Very sad. When we were younger and had family get together's it was always fun when he was there. He was silly and funny and kept things entertaining. So sorry life ened up so sadly for him. RIP Tyler

Tyler was a unique and eccentric individual. When I first met him he was a devoted Country and Western music lover who later on became a devoted lover of the English Pre-Raphaelites. He was generous with his home and provided friends with great dinners and croquet matches in the summer days. He lived his life his own way and in his youth was a local champion swimmer at the Cranford Swim Club for many years. He loved traveling to Ireland and once stood at W.B. Yeats gravesite under Ben Bulben's head and read these word "Cast a cold eye, on life, on death. Horseman, pass by!" May you rest in peace, Tyler.

Tyler made people feel good about themselves. During the summer of 1968, Tyler and I drove from San Antonio, Texas to Cranford, New Jersey. Along the way we stopped at the mountain side pocket village of Canyon, West Virginia, where Tyler was a celebrity among all the families there. One night I talked all night long with a 17-year-old Joanne Benet. I asked her, "Why is everyone in this village crazy about my brother?" She said, "Well, all the other kids who came here from the Cranford Presbyterian Church were nice, and full of 'hospitality,' but Tyler really made us feel good about ourselves. Until Tyler came along, we all felt ashamed about being poor. But he made us feel special and even fortunate to live here, with places like Sulfur Holler nearby. He'd see a hand pump that we had to use to pump water and say, 'Does that really work? Oh, wow! Can I pump it?' and he'd get excited when water came out. Because of Tyler, we all feel we are rich in our own ways."

Oh Tyler...the world is dimmer now you are gone. Funny, creative, whimsical, generous man...as a host you were nonpareil, I recall your St. Patrick's Day fest (and answering machine message of "cabbage! 12 cents a pound!"), your love of Ireland and it's magic and your lovely book of pix and thoughts from your travels. And Halloween, with your inventive decorations inside and outside, and 4th of July (I remember dancing with you to "Heard it thru the Grapevine" one hot hot summer 4th) -- your love of culture, history, music (Linda Ronstadt your love) and art, and thank you for turning me on to much knowledge and beauty. Generous, kindly, creative Tyler, who appreciated extremes and wasn't scared...I will miss you my friend.
Love always.

I was a lifeguard at the Cranford Swim Club in the late 80s/early 90s. Tyler came to the pool every day, swam many laps, and sat with his friends, summer after summer. He was a really nice person and we always enjoyed seeing him. RIP Tyler.
