Robert A. Barbey&bb& &pe&On April 18, 2002, Robert A. Barbey, died following a lengthy illness. Bob was born June 2, 1924 in Ellsworth, Maine. His family moved to Everett during his military duty with the Army-Air Corps. Upon his return to Everett, he met his wife Margaret at an ice-cream social where he was playing piano. They married on August 18, 1950 and made their home in Marysville.&pe&Bob received a BA degree in Music Education at the University of Washington and Washington State University and continued on to central Washington State University where he received a Masters degree in Music Theory and composition. He taught music to children for the Everett School District for 30 years and enjoyed many years as a professional jazz pianist in Jazz bands and big-bands from Seattle all across Canada. His professional career provided him many opportunities to meet and perform for numerous celebrities and important events. He was an accomplished teacher and composer of childrens music, hundreds of his songs having been published. He was the creator for the Everett Symphony Orchestras "Popsicle Pops" concerts.&pe&He has been a musician nearly his entire life and influenced an unknown number of people with his teaching and talent. Everyone who attended grade school in Everett during that period of time, looked forward to the day Mr. Barbey was coming to class.&pe&Incorporated into the music he wrote, was his respect and appreciation for our earth, the environment, and all the animals with which we share the earth, from bumble bees to whales.&pe&His family is greatful for his continuing influence. He was an exceptional person, husband, father and role model who lived his life gently, with integrity and kindness.&pe&Bob is survived by his wife Margaret of 51 years, children; Mark, Susan and Katy, and sister, Mary Abbott of Salisbury Cove, ME. He is predeceased by his parents, Peter and Katherine Barbey.&pe&No formal services will be held. Disposition entrusted to Peoples Memorial. Contributions appreciatively given to Evergreen Hospice.
