Velma M. Harmel

.Velma Harmel, 91, passed away peacefully on March 4,2017. Velma was born October 26, 1925, in Burton, Texas to Louise Meyer Mueller and Albert Mueller. She was a lifelong Lutheran and was baptized at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Rehburg in Burton, TX and later confirmed in the same church. She subsequently became a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church when she moved to Houston. She was always active with church volunteering and school activities for her children. She adored her family and loved to bake and even one time placed her granddaughter's favorite homemade cookie in her mouth while she was napping because she knew it would bring her joy. Velma sold Stanley Home Products for many years and later retired from Eckerd's Pharmacy. Velma will be lovingly missed by her family: Daughter and Son-In-Law, Sherry and Michael Jones, Son, Robert W. Harmel and Christine Tucker and Granddaughter Kimberly Jones. Velma is preceded in death by her Husband of 69 years, Robert, Grandson Jason Jones, Mother, Louise Mueller, Father, Albert Mueller, Sisters, Esther Williford, Henrietta Pierson and Brothers, Otto Mueller, Charles Mueller, Rueben Mueller and Gilbert Mueller. She will also be missed by many friends, nieces and nephews. The family will receive family and friends Wednesday, March 8th from 5pm-8pm at Heights Funeral Home. Funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, March 9th at 11 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 306 E. 15th St., Houston, Texas 77008. Graveside service will follow at Houston National Cemetery
