Vera GRANT Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Feb. 13 to Feb. 14, 2010.

GRANT, Vera July 24, 1907 - February 8, 2010 Passed away peacefully in her own home, in the care of her family. Born and raised on Dumfries Street in East Vancouver, she attended John Oliver High School and worked for a Howe Street Customs Broker before marrying Louis Seymour Grant in July, 1936. In 1939, Vera and Lou built their home in Point Grey where they raised their three children. Vera lived by her faith and was an active member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church (OLPH) for more than seventy years. She was a founding member of the Catholic Women's League and a member of the Madonna Group. She was a thirty-year cancer survivor. Vera was an avid bridge player up to age one hundred and two, loved to travel, entertain and keep up with the latest trends and world events. She attributed her longevity to family, faith and community. She welcomed all into her home and life and inspired everyone who met her with her indomitable optimism, her subtle humour and her courage. To her last day, she was proud of her independence. She will be lovingly remembered by her family including her children, Marilyn Cameron (Jim), Mike Grant (Penny), and Peter Grant (Barbara); her grandchildren, Mark Cameron (Nancy), Gail Nelson (Ross), Bernie Cameron (Kirsten), Lynn Smith (Graham), Maureen Cameron, Elspeth Grant-Smith (Glen), Robert Grant (Josie), Tara Grant and Lauren Grant; and her twelve great-grandchildren Anna, Brendan, Cameron, Chiara, Erik, Garrett, Henry, Jordan, Katie, Louis, Olivia, and Sam. Prayers will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, February 14 at OLPH Church, 2465 Crown Street (10th and Crown) in Vancouver. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 15 at 10 am, Father Bill Cumerford celebrant, followed by a reception in the Church Hall. The family thanks her caregivers Grace, Michelle, and Josie, Dr. Edwards, and Dr. Cline and the Pacific Coastal Palliative Care Team who helped make Vera's final weeks more comfortable. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Franciscan Sisters of the Atonement, 385 Cordova Street or Covenant House, 575 Drake Street. Please no flowers. Her presence in all our lives is deeply felt. We will all miss her. Kearney Funeral Services 604-736-0268
