RIVET, Vera (nee Barilko) Canadian Armed Forces Veteran W.314772 Resident of St. Albert, passed away from this life at the age of 78 in Edmonton on Monday, August 23, 2004. Born in Edmonton, September 21, 1925 she leaves her children: Mary-Lea (Gary) Chaters of Mississauga, Ontario, Gail (Cor) de Boon of St. Albert, Lisa (Mitch) Potter of St. Albert and Marc Rivet of Edmonton. Grandmother of eight: Brent and Tricia Chaters, Nicolas, Arianna and Breanne de Boon, Ashley, Meaghan and Justin Potter; sister of Sister Olga Barilko C.S.J. of London, Ontario and John (Carol) Barilko of Leduc. Predeceased by sister Marge Clark. Vera will always be remembered for her sense of humour, flair for fashion, love of crossword puzzles and thoughtful generous acts. She was an outstanding athlete, winning a City of Edmonton Track and Field award in her early years. She aspired to play for the Grad basketball team before it was disbanded. She played and coached softball into her 40's and was an outstanding pitcher. Vera joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1943 and served actively as a Leading Aircraftwoman until discharge in 1945 with a Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Over the years she lived in Canyon Creek, Hay River, Cold Lake, Edmonton and St. Albert. She was an avid sports fan cheering on the Blue Jays. She will be lovingly remembered by her family and those whose lives she touched. Following private cremation, a Celebration of Life will take place at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, August 26, 2004 at 160 Kingswood Blvd., St. Albert. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Win House (Edmonton Women's Shelter Ltd.), P.O. Box 20088, RPO Beverly, Edmonton T5W 5E6.
