Vern DOTEN Obituary
October 29, 1926 – August 3, 2015
Vern Doten passed away peacefully on August 3, 2015 at the age of 88 years. He was born in Calgary, Alberta and lived there all his life as a committed and engaged member of his community. In 1945, Vern joined the Royal Canadian Navy and later became a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #264. Vern was a lifetime volunteer, proudly working with many organizations including the Calgary Stampede Board, the Al Azhar Shriners and the Calgary Senior Resource Centre. He is survived by his loving family including his wife of more than 50 years, Gloria and his two sons Jeff and Greg. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, August 10, 2015 at SOUTH CALGARY FUNERAL CENTRE, 12700 Macleod Trail South (at Lake Fraser Gate), at 11:00 a.m. Messages of remembrance may be left for the family at

I am very sorry to hear of Vern's passing.This City has lost a devoted volunteer, and a great Man.
We certainly appreciated his dedication volunteering with the 97 World Police Fire Games.

Gloria & family,
Not the best news we had today. I have many great memories of time spent with you & Vern during our many years in JCs. Unfortunately, Lynn did not get to know Vern well having only met him a couple of times at Senate functions. He will indeed be missed. The world needs more Vern Dotens.
