Verna Mary Sweet

Verna Mary Sweet (nee Levy), age 87, of New Ross, NS passed away peacefully on January 27, 2023 in Lunenburg, NS. Verna was born in New Ross on June 6, 1935 to parents Elvie Blanche (Mahoney) and Norman William Levy. She did domestic work and childcare in New Ross and for many years operated the cafeteria at the School. Verna found the love of her life, husband Ron Sweet, and started a lifelong partnership. Together they built their home in New Ross, raised four children and helped care for six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Whether working in their gardens or Christmas Trees or just taking long walks in the woods, they were rarely apart. Active members of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, they made many contributions over the years. Verna is survived by her sister, Olive (Delbert) McDow, children James (Cathy) Sweet, Robert (Bonnie) Sweet, Cindy (Barri) Meisner, grandchildren Lynsee (Johnny) Wall, Ben (Maria) Sweet, Jill (Mike) Sweet, Sarah (Kyle) Sweet and Jeff Sweet, as well as great-grandchildren, Zayden, Tristin and Tytus Wall and James ("Fred") and Ivy Mae Sweet. Verna was predeceased by husband, Ronald ("Ron") Sweet, daughter, Debbie (Michael) Gates, grandson Luke Meisner and brothers George (Polly), Guy (Shirley), Milton (Pauline), Arnold (Mardell), and Earl (Francis). Special thanks to best friend, Emmy Walker, for much love and support. A Celebration of Life service will be held 4:00 pm, Saturday, February 4 at St. Patrick's Church, New Ross. Reception for family and friends will follow at the Ross Farm Museum Hearth Room. Interment will take place at St. Patrick's Cemetery, New Ross at a later date.
