Funeral services for Verne Cubbage, age 67, of Hollister, MO, who succumbed to multiple myeloma Friday, January 27, 2006, in St. Louis, Missouri, were held Thursday, February 2, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Roland-Ritchie Funeral Home in Corning. Interment was held in the Strand Cemetery with military rites accorded by the Ourcq Post No. 117 of the Corning American Legion. A memorial service will be held on February 12, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church in Branson, Missouri. Verne Donovan Cubbage was born April 1, 1938 in Des Moines, IA the son of G. O. Cubbage and Carmen Conery Cubbage. He grew up attending school and graduated from Des Moines Technical High School with the Class of 1957. After graduation Verne served in the United States Marine Corps from 1957 to 1960. On April 2, 1961 he was united in marriage to Verla Mosman of Corning. Verne worked for the Rock Island Railroad Company from 1960 to 1966. He then worked as a deputy Bailiff for the City of Des Moines from 1967 to 1973. In January of 1973, he along with wife, Verla, and children purchased Spring Creek Resort in Isabella, MO and operated it until 1987. Verne's final career was a self-employed commercial printing salesman from 1987 to 2003. In 2003, when he retired, they moved to Hollister, Missouri.
Verne always put his family and friends first and loved attending his children's and grandchildren's activities. He especially enjoyed driving the school bus to take students to special events around the Midwest. He never met a stranger, and left everyone with a smile. His favorite pastime was fishing when he wasn't hard at work.
Left to cherish Verne's memory are his loving wife Verla of Hollister, MO; a daughter Jennifer Camacho and husband Steve of Nixa, Missouri; a son, Jerry Cubbage and wife Julie of Wildwood, Missouri; a grandson, Jake Camacho; and step-grandchildren Jordan and Mike Camacho; four sisters, two brothers, two brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law and fifteen nieces and nephews.
Preceding Verne in death are his parents, G. O. and Carmen Cubbage; parents-in-law, Verle and Helen Mosman; two nephews, a niece and one sister-in-law.
