Vernon Wilford Blue died peacefully at home with his family by his side on Sunday, June 5, 2022 in Mount Vernon, Washington. He was born August 7, 1929 in Hopkins, Minnesota. The son of Richard and Clara Estergard Blue.

Vernon graduated from Iroquois High School in 1947 then from Creighton University in 1958. Following college, he worked for Sherwin Williams as an industrial chemist. Vernon was a corporal in the Army. He served his country as a dispatcher in the transportation truck division in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1953. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Metal.

In 1954 he married Nancy Rudloff. They had six children and celebrated 68 years of marriage on June 3, 2022.

Vernon was employed as the plant manager for a small chemical plant on Marches Point in Anacortes, WA for 20 years.

Vernon and Nancy enjoyed traveling. They were blessed to have seen all the continents except Antarctica. They also enjoyed golf and playing bridge together. Vernon loved his annual pheasant hunting trips to South Dakota. He also liked to garden.

He is survived by Nancy and their children: Deborah Paul, David Blue, Diana (Dennis) Dobson, Mark (Jonita) Blue and Ruth (Luke) Zepeda; his sister Irene Nuccio of Howell New Jersey; sister-in-law Marge Blue of Iroquois, SD; brother-in-law Leonard (Karen) Rudloff of Sioux Falls, SD; His grandchildren: Clara Blue, Matthew Blue, Anna Blue, Veronica (Sean) Danek, Kathryn (Andrew) Ciancone, Teresa, Mary and Elizabeth Zepeda; Great-grand-children: Miana, Aaron, Aeva Crosby and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Clara Blue, and Edward and Gladys Rudloff; His son, Paul Blue (1959-1964); Brothers: Eugene, Donnie, and George (Belva); Sisters: Helen (Ralph) Braswell, Esther (Richard) VanCamp; In-laws: Andy Nuccio, Edward Rudloff, Barbara and Donald McFadden, Sherry Rudloff; Nieces and nephews: Kathleen Blue, Harry, James, Jeffrey, and Rhonda VanCamp, Clara, Amelia, and Alan Nuccio, Jeanne Webb, Tracy and Tina Rudloff, and Marty Skovland.

The Rosary will be said at 11:30 AM at Immaculate Conception church in Mt. Vernon, WA., followed by the Funeral Mass at 12:00 PM, Monday June 13. Private entombment will take place at Holyrood Cemetery in Shoreline WA.

A big thank you to all the Right at Home care givers. Especially those who were with him this past year: Nancy S., Robyn A., Betty B., Kathy H. for all their dedication and love for Vernon. Hospice of the Northwest has helped immensely. Particularly Tiger, the many nurses, counselors, and for always being available when we needed to call.

i remember what an awesome man , the calm he maintianed reading the paper while his children trying ruths and his patience the whole way. and yes i was just another of the kids on the block causing havoc, that he and Ruth, put up with. Thanks for the memories!!

My deepest sympathy for Nancy for her loss. I will always remember Vern's smile and wry humor during our Newcomer's Club bridge evenings shortly after arriving in Mount Vernon.
