Vernon Daeley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 18, 2024.
Vernon L. Daeley passed away on June 2, 2024, after a long battle with cancer and the loss of his beloved wife, Mary Lee.

Vern was born in Sherwood, North Dakota, on May 11, 1939 to Sam and Mafie Daeley. He attended Eden Valley Elementary School, riding through the snow on a horse to get there. He began working at the age of 10, shearing sheep and driving horses. He left home at the age of 15 and graduated from high school in Mohall, North Dakota, and attended North Dakota State University where he joined Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, played basketball, and met the love of his life, Mary Lee. They came to Seattle in 1959 without a dime in their pockets and he ultimately began working for Smith Brothers Farms as a milkman. He and Mary Lee bought a house in Shoreline in 1962 where they raised their family and were part of the Shoreline community. Vern sponsored teams and coached for Richmond Little League and was the milkman for hundreds of families and the Shoreline School district-he remembered routes and orders with excruciating detail some 40 years later. He and Mary Lee retired to Lake Roosevelt in the early 1990's where Vern enjoyed fishing, hunting, carpentry, and starting a new business, Kettle River Bolt. Vern and Mary Lee moved to Shelton to be near their family. Vern did everything in life exactly the way he wanted to, all of the time. He is survived by his son Jim, his son Jon and his wife Mindy, his daughter Lisa and her husband Jim; grandchildren Jenna and her husband Alex, Kyle and his wife Autumn, Sami and her husband Nick, Mac, Nora and her husband Liam; and great-grandkids Kamdyn, Hazel Grace, and Lincoln, who he was proud to have met on his 85th birthday. Vern will be remembered for his unique perspective and often wildly inappropriate turns of phrase, and will be missed greatly by his family.

May he rest in peace, he was one of my favorite clients and I'm honored that I got to be part of caring for him during the last 10 or so months before he passed. I always loved listening to his stories.

Vern was one of my fishing and hunting partners for many years.
Vern and Mary Lee were my wife and my great friends.
We were both in the same coffee club here in Colville for many years.
I´m sure he is up there with Mary Lee and happy now.
I´ll be joining you soon.

I remember one Christmas season when it was extremely cold outside. I was in elementary school and home for Christmas break. I saw the truck pull up and invited him in for some fresh baked Christmas cookies and hot cocoa. He parked his truck and came in, sat down, and enjoyed the break. We had a very nice conversation before he continued on his way. My mom was a little surprised by my actions, but thought my generosity was heartfelt. I should note that before I invited him in, I forgot to ask her permission first. When he left he had an extra plate of cookies for the road. I always thought that he was a very kind person, and I looked forward to his deliveries. My heart goes out to his family and friends during this difficult time. Linda Burnett Larson

He was a helluva baseball coach. He and my dad Vern Kettel (Vitamilk Dairy) were good friends. Rest in Peace Mr. Daeley...thanks for all you did for us!

Mr. Daeley was our milkman from 72 to 83, and could not have been a nicer guy. I'm very sorry to learn of his passing, and wish his family all the best in this trying time.
