Vicky Heeley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 29, 2024.
Vicky Lee Heeley, 77, of Edmonds, WA, passed away Friday July 12, 2024, at home with her family by her side. She was born in Pocatello, Idaho, on June 29, 1947, the daughter of Charles William Dietrich and Katherine May Lovin, and the youngest of four siblings. She was an active child, but sadly contracted polio at the very young age of 5. Luckily she overcame being in an iron lung and went on to be very active in school and continued education in business studies. Vicky went through many hardships in her teens and 20s, but she was always working and self-educating to better her life and situation.

Vicky met her soulmate Derek at the age of 32, who went on to become a father to her 5 children and a caring, loving, loyal person to the family. They traveled together all over the world to live and work, including England, Israel, Germany, South Africa and the United States.

Vicky was always immensely supportive to her children and kept in touch with them religiously. She was an incredibly charismatic and bubbly person, was extremely well-read, and had an extraordinary business mind. She was forever coming up with creative solutions and ideas, and she liked to pass those ideas on to family and friends, many of whom said she was ahead of her time.

She loved spending time with her husband, and they were always together. With her exceptionally active mind, she was a talker and enjoyed having long chats with her friends and family about a great many subjects, including family history, business, music, spiritual growth, the women's movement, alternative healing, and politics. Vicky really loved to dance! Even though she had physical limitations, she never let that stop her when it came to dancing. She was also an avid reader, puzzler, crocheter, and enjoyed coloring and cooking.

She dealt with many health issues later in life due to the polio, and was affected more and more in the last few years of her life. We all love and miss her terribly, but we are somewhat comforted by the fact that she is no longer suffering.

Vicky was preceded in death by her son Daniel J. Sorg, as well as her two sisters and one brother. She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Derek A. Heeley and her 4 other children, David R. Heeley, Katherine I. Sorg, Madeline E. Heeley, and John Griffin, as well as 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

There is no question that I learned all my best character traits and how to support others from my Mom. Now that I am learning how to navigate a family and fatherhood, I appreciate the lessons and principles she passed on more than ever.

Even though Vicky was gone before my daughter was born, I often see her looking down on us and can feel her steadfast Love.

I will always aspire to Love the way she did, which was not only for family but all others and the world at large.

Thinking of you my sweet and kind hearted friend.

I first met Vicky in August 1979 at her second job as a cocktail waitress. I was immediately enamored. Vicky, thrice bitten by marriage was a little more cautious thinking how could I be serious with her having five children. We married the next spring and never looked back. She made such a wonderful partner and love.
It says something about my darling Vicky that she stayed upbeat throughout her long illness and in her final days her eyes sparkled and she kept her sense of humor always.
Her loving family really came through in her final years. She and I will be eternally grateful for the commitment and sacrifices they made.
Her son David who she loved so much and together went through enough experiences to fill a book.
Her son Daniel who sadly passed too soon.
Her adored daughters Katie and Maddie who have really come through for her even though they live so far away. Katie with a family of her own and Maddie, with the wonderful Mico, still staying on to look after her Dad.
Her baby boy John who has grown to really make something to be proud of in his life.
I only need do the simplest of things. I fill her cup with water and in the sweetest voice she says "thank you". It breaks my heart!
Vicky is and will remain the heart and soul of this family, loved by all who had the joy of meeting her. She had so much love for everyone and her family most of all.
We can only celebrate her life as an example to us all.
She will be sorely missed and forever in our hearts.
She is everything to me and I love her.
Derek

I am sad to hear of Aunt Vicki's passing. She brought so much laughter into our home when she visited, that is what I will always remember her for. Also, the resemblance she has to my sister Debbie is uncanny.

Dear Derek & Vicky

I am not sure where to start. My heart is heavy, and I am deeply saddened to hear about Vicky´s passing. I have known Vicky for a long time, and she was truly a wonderful person, full of love. The way she cared for Derek was reciprocated by his care for her. The love between these two individuals always amazed and touched me. Now, I am certain that it was a genuine and profound love.

Although I knew Vicky well, I never had the opportunity to meet her in person. I regret not making more of an effort to do so. Nevertheless, Vicky had a fulfilling life with her beloved husband and their children. She had everything she desired, including the luxurious bed she wanted. She was also fortunate to have a loving husband who took care of her until the end.

Let us celebrate her successful life and cherish her priceless moments. I will miss her deeply, as will many others.

Vicky, we miss you!

Regards,

Saravana Perumal

I first met Vicky when Maddie and I were late getting home one afternoon from high school. I guess Maddie was meant to be home a lot earlier, and the minute we walked in the door, Vicky was sitting in a chair, with a pair of blue gradient-shaded glasses on and a stern look on her face. My first impression was, 'wow, she is strikingly BEAUTIFUL, and, those glasses are really cool!' She had words with Maddie while I waited outside, then she invited me back in, and from that moment I felt I was part of the family. Vicky was always very inclusive, kind, friendly, very caring and genuinely interested in her friends' lives. I have fond memories of her throughout the years, most recently of when I worked for her for a few months when I first moved back to the States from Ireland. I liked that she had also been an expat, and had a lot of worldly knowledge and so our chats felt meaningful and empathetic. I will always remember her distinctive, kind voice, her laugh, and all the interesting stories of her different life experiences. She was devoted to her husband, her family and to her friends and will be greatly missed! Vicky, I pray that you have peace, and are resting comfortably with God. Love, Susan
