Victoria "Tori" Aileen Hamilton Monaghan, 28, was called home to be with Jesus on Saturday evening, November 5th, 2022 after a hard-fought and courageous 14-month battle against breast cancer.

Tori was born in Chesapeake, VA, on January 10th, 1994 as the first daughter and eventual "middle child" to Russ and Allison Hamilton. Raised in Suffolk, VA, and graduating from Nansemond River High School in 2012, she went on to earn a Master's in Education from Longwood University in 2016 where she was also a 4-year member of the Longwood Company of Dancers.

From January 2017 through October 2022, she lovingly poured into the lives of students as a Special Education teacher at Indian River High School of Chesapeake, VA, Justice High School of Alexandria, VA, and Merrimack High School of Nashua, NH. Whether it was volunteering as an assistant coach for Varsity volleyball, taking on extra classes teaching Geometry and Algebra, or late nights completing IEPs for her students - Victoria's work ethic was recognized and appreciated by all who came to know her. While in Fairfax County she received the New Teacher of the Year award in secondary education for the 2020-2021 school year.

Victoria's life was filled with love for many activities, but always at the top was dance. As a charter member of the Fusion Dance Team, she competed nearly every weekend for 8 years. She loved her two cats, Scarlett and Sven, big dogs, sunflowers, 90's rap music, daily phone calls with her mom and dressing up for a night out. Most of all she deeply loved and cared for her friends, family and Stephen.

Stephen and Tori met in August 2016, just after she finished college and while he was in the Navy. After 5 years of dating and a brief 6-month engagement, they exchanged vows on June 24th, 2022 in a private ceremony with family at a nearby park in Nashua.

Victoria is survived by her husband Stephen Monaghan III; parents Russ and Allison Hamilton; brother Nick Hamilton and wife Beth; sister Rachel Hamilton Dykes and husband Cole; and nephews Theodore and Grant Hamilton.

Please join us in celebrating her life Saturday morning November 19th at 11a.m. at Nansemond River Baptist Church, 2896 Bridge Road, Suffolk, VA. Victoria specifically requested that friends and family avoid wearing black and dress casually and comfortably. The family will receive friends following the service. For those unable to attend in person, a live stream of the service will be available at nrbc.online.church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Michelle-O-Gram (www.michelleogram.com), an organization set up in memory of Victoria's Aunt Michelle, to assist women who cannot afford mammograms.

Dear Hamilton family,

It was such a privilege to know and grow up with someone as kindhearted, passionate, and sweet as Tori, from play dates and snow days, to helping my parents in the yard, to every adventure we shared as kids. She was always the first to offer a helping hand whenever she came over, and always with a "please" or "thank you" to Miss Cindy and Mister Sam. Her laugh and smile were truly infectious. She was one of a kind. May her love and light live on in every person she touched with her kind and gentle spirit. Much love to you all.

Dear Hamilton Family,
I was honored to have been able to share the stage with Tori at Longwood. From day one of auditions, I was inspired by Tori´s commitment and passion when she danced. Every rehearsal I would watch her and learn from her. I am grateful for the leadership skills she shared as rehearsal directress and the love for dance she shared at every practice and show. Tori was and always will be an inspiration to so many. My condolences go out to your family during this time.

Dear Hamilton's,

Thank you for sharing such a sweet spirit with us all. Tori exemplified endurance, faith, understanding and compassion to everyone she came in contact with and she did so with dignity and grace. My special memories of her at the studio will help me cope. Knowing she is in the loving arms of the Father and that I will see her again is something I look forward to. May God give you strength and peace as she dances through eternity.

To the Hamilton Family,
Thank you for bringing Tori into all our lives. I will never forget her strength and her willingness to try everything to the best of her ability... and boy would she go full throttle (even into a dance mirror trying!) I've never had a more respectful student in all my years of teaching dance. She filled all our lives with love and light... and she will live on in our hearts forever. I can't believe your gone...I love you Tori!

Love,
Mrs. Jenn

I met Victoria in August 2021 when she joined our family at Merrimack High School. I new from the instant I met her that she was someone very special. She was an upbeat , loving, caring young woman of many talents , some of which I didn´t know until just recently. Her "Yes Ma´am" always made me feel old but just showed her respect for people. I miss her every day but know that she is with the Lord and living pain free now. sending prayers to Stephen, Allison, Russ and all her family and friends.

The Learning Support team at Merrimack High School, New Hampshire, was blessed to know Victoria as part of our team for 14 months.
She gave love and support unstintingly to her students and fellow team members and was at work as much as she could possibly be, through all her treatments.
Victoria was a bright light who will live on in our hearts always.
Sending love and prayers to her family. Thank you Allison and Russ for coming into school to spend time with our team, in the midst of your loss.
