Victoria Marvel

Victoria Marvel, 93, Arthur, ND passed away Monday, November 5, 2012 at the Arthur Good Samaritan Center. Victoria B. Svobodny was born on November 25, 1918, to Frank and Anna (Kozojed) Svobodny in Thief River Falls, MN. The family relocated to Cummings, ND, in 1928. She attended elementary school through the 8th grade in Cummings. Victoria was united in marriage to Dwight Marvel on May 14, 1938, in Cummings. They moved to a farm near Galesburg, ND in the spring of 1939 and on March 15, 1941 (the big blizzard) they moved to a farm southwest of Hunter and farmed until Dwight retired in 1981. They continued to live on the farmstead until Dwight's death in 1998. Vicki moved to Arthur in 1998 as was very happy to be a part of the Arthur community. In August 2010, she moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Arthur. The family extends sincere and heartfelt appreciation to the staff members at the center for the loving and compassionate care that Vicki received at the center, most especially the last two years. Vicki and Dwight enjoyed several winters in Loveland, CO and Tucson, AZ. Vicki was a member of the Hunter United Methodist Church and Ladies Aid (until the church closed in 2003) and a 50+ year member of the Royal Neighbors of America Lodge. For several years she was a member of the Prairie Rose Homemakers Club and was a 4H leader. She was also a recent member of the Arthur United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening and making jelly and pickles for her family. She also loved baking and sewing quilts for her children and grandchildren. Vicki is survived by four children, Richard (Mary) – Hunter, ND, Dale – West Fargo, ND, Donna (Fred) Hudson – Tuscon, AZ, Mark (Ila) – Bismarck, ND; 11 grandchildren; Bart (Lori) Marvel – Hunter, Mona (Jeff) Johnson – Grand Forks, ND, Tony Marvel – Savage, MN, Sheila (Jerrod) Wamre – Hawley, MN, Teresa (Kory) Mosher - Prior Lake, MN, Ron Marvel - Detroit Lakes, MN, Guy (Laura) Hudson - Boise, ID, Hal (Dianne) Hudson – Oro Valley, AZ, Jason (Mary) Marvel - Lincoln, ND, Adam (Renee) Marvel – Los Angeles, CA, and Cameron Marvel – Bismarck; 18 great grandchildren, Alexandra and Cole Marvel, Candace and Drew Johnson, Madeline and Alysia Marvel, Nicholas and Samuel Wamre, Gabrielle, Vincent and Lillianna Mosher, Kimberleigh, Emmaleigh and Autumn Marvel and Clayton and Evelyn Hudson, Samuel and Amanda Hudson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight (January 26, 1998); her parents; and five siblings, Abel Svobodny, Mildred Gall, Angeline Breznay, Florence Donda and Margaret Schmidt. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Good Samaritan Center or United Methodist Church, both Arthur or to a charity of your choice..
