Victoria “Vickie” Ann Pettit, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, at the age of 76, on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria. Vickie was born November 22, 1946 to Victor and Cecilia Dockendorff in Oak Park, Illinois. Vickie was an only child of an only child (Victor), and had many cousins on her mother's side of the family, some of whom lived across the street in Lombard, Illinois and treated her like a sibling.
A memorial visitation for Vickie will be held Wednesday, April 12, from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM, at Nativity Of Our Lord Parish (St. Anthony Church) in Spring Valley, Illinois, with the funeral Mass of Christian Burial immediately following. The Rev. Scott Potthoff will officiate.
The Barto Funeral Home, Spring Valley, is honored to be assisting Vickie’s family at this time.
Vickie had a Catholic education and graduated from St. Francis High School in Wheaton, Illinois. She went to business school and started her career at Continental Bank in Chicago. She was happy to be able to work with her father at Kinzua Dam in Warren, Pennsylvania. Returning to Lombard, Illinois, she was hired by ITT as a legal secretary. During that time she was able to travel extensively in Europe and the U.S.
Vickie met the love of her life, Gregg, on a blind date arranged by Helen Joanis on the occasion of her daughter's wedding. Vickie and Gregg were wed December 9, 1978. They were blessed with two children, Grant and Jolie, and a succession of dogs including four Scottish Terriers: Tootsie, Cricket, Pippin and Fennel.
Vickie was a wonderful homemaker who eventually joined Gregg at his business as a bookkeeper until they both retired to their dream home in Spring Valley, Illinois, where they enjoyed 17 golden years. Vickie had many lifelong passions including gardening, nature, knitting, sewing, cooking and volunteering. Her talents in the arts and music were inherited from her father, a graphic artist and musician, and her paternal grandfather, a former seminarian and organist at the Vatican.
She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Gregg, son Grant (Kristen), grandsons Graham and Isaac, daughter Jolie (Paul, and son Zachary), grandchildren Declan, Lorelai, Piper and Remi, and her Scottie, Fennel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Wetlands Initiative or the Hall Township Food Pantry.
A guestbook may be signed and memories shared with the family by visiting bartofh.com.

Greg and I have been friends since High School. My mom introduced them on a blind date and the rest is history. I remember talking to Greg the day after their blind date and asked him how it went. All he did was look at me and said “Wow “, I was so happy for them. They are the example of how a life together should be. God bless Vicky and all her family.

We here at the Wetlands Initiative are saddened to learn of Mrs. Pettit's passing. We're glad though that she got to enjoy the Dixon Waterfowl Refuge as we do, and touched by being remembered by her family in the obituary.
