Victoria Sanchez Morales Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 6, 2024.
Victoria Morales, 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Dec. 19, 2023 at her home in McAllen. Vicky was born on April 18th 1942. She was one of eight children born to Alejos and Francisca Sanchez. She is survived by her six living siblings (Soledad Villanueva, Sylvia Mahoney, Rosalva Ericson, Martha Espinoza and Alejos Sanchez Jr, while her parents and two other siblings (Noe Cruz and Dora Alaniz) precede her in death. She is also preceded in death by her husband Luis Morales and is survived by her loving children Irene Morales, Fabian Morales, Luis Morales and grandchildren Nathaniel Morales, Brianna Morales, Adonis Morales and Sirena Morales who will forever cherish the memories and lessons she shared with them.

Vicky was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend who touched the lives of everyone around her. She was a compassionate soul who dedicated her work life to serving those in need.

She worked for Texas Migrant Council supporting migrant farmworkers, understanding the challenges they faced, she followed them around the country advocating for them ensuring they were receiving essential resources.

She founded Parents for MASH (Medical Assistance and Support for the Handicapped) together with the late Rodrigo and Elda Garza. This organization was dedicated to supporting parents of children with special needs.

Her impact extended beyond her professional life, she made many friends over the years because she had a remarkable talent for listening. She had the ability to truly understand what others were saying, making everyone who spoke with her feel genuinely heard and valued. She listened with a heart full of empathy and was always quick to offer help and guidance.

She was also fearless and tough. She never shied away from a battle, especially if it meant standing up for those facing injustice. This commitment to always doing the right thing compelled her to organize a tenants union in the Retama Housing Authority and even join 100,000 Americans that marched on Washington DC in July of 1978 in support of the Equal Right Amendment.

Vicky was passionate about everything she did especially gambling and playing card games. When she was younger, she enjoyed deep sea fishing; once landing a 70 lb Grouper. She also played in an adult softball team to feed her competitive nature. In the end, playing covert slot machines and card games with her friends were how she chose to pass her time.

Mom's absence will be deeply felt by many and words can't capture the extent the loss those closest to her are feeling. We love you Mom! We're happy you and Dad are together again.

A life well lived is a precious gift
Of hope and strength and grace,
From someone who has made our world
A brighter, better place
It´s filled with moments, sweet and sad
With smiles and sometimes tears,
With friendships formed and good times shared
And laughter through the years.
A life well lived is a legacy
Of joy and pride and pleasure,
A living, lasting memory
Our grateful hearts will treasure
