In Loving Memory

Dr. Vikki Howard, DVM

( 12-3-1956 - 4-2-2025)

Vikki Howard, DVM, passed away peacefully at her home in Rye, New Hampshire, on April 2, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on December 3, 1956 in Reform, Alabama to James and Mavelene (Harcrow) Howard.

Vikki is survived by her husband John Borden of Rye, New Hampshire and her two sisters, Sabrena (Darlene) Howard of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Jada Howard of North Hampton, New Hampshire.

Vikki pursued her academic passions with dedication, earning degrees in both Business and Fine Arts from Mississippi State University for Women. She later achieved her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Mississippi State University, a milestone that marked the beginning of a lifelong commitment to animal care and advocacy.

Known for her compassionate nature and generous spirit, Vikki brought warmth and laughter wherever she went. Her witty sense of humor and magnetic personality endeared her to an eclectic circle of friends that spanned across countries. Though she made New England her home for nearly four decades, she remained a Southern Belle at heart.

Vikki was a passionate gardener and devoted feline enthusiast. She found joy in the natural world and in the companionship of her cats and beloved husband. Her vibrant energy and love of life left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

A Celebration of Life for Vikki will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to an animal shelter of your choice.

I am beyond sad to lose you my friend. We have shared many laughs and hilarious moments thru the years, and because of you, now I'm a New England coastal girl...but still love my grits and sweet tea. Keep laughing. will love you forever...

So very sad to hear this news. Vikki and I worked together and she brought warmth and humor and fierce dedication to everything she did. Great on any team, always reliable and just a lot of fun and smarts. My most sincere condolences to everyone she touched. We have lost her far too soon.

I am just heartbroken. I met Vikki when we both worked for the Iams Company in the early 1990's. I was immediately attracted to her wit and her spirit. We became fast friends and even after we both left the company, we stayed in touch. She was hilarious, smart, creative and a great friend. I will miss her greatly. Way too soon for you to go!

Vikki was one of my dearest friends in veterinary school. We had many hilarious escapades together. She was fearless, fun, smart, and talented. I will never forget her and all the joy that she brought into my life.

Vikki was the very best. She took her role as my mentor very seriously. She showed me warmth, kindness and the very best way of handling almost anything. Generous to her core, she radiated love. If you were blessed enough to spend any amount of time with her you know her gifts will continue to radiate through the impact she made on the people (and cats) in her life.
