Vilma Jean Goeb
1926-2016
Vilma Jean Marshall, was born on September 14, 1926 in Charlottesville, Virginia to Ella Earl Critzer and Roy Ashton Marshall. Early Sunday morning November 13, 2016 she went home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
In 1944, Jean moved with her mother and stepfather, Ralph K. Herring to Baltimore, Maryland and worked in a factory in support of the war effort. In 1946, she met Charles Anthony Goeb, who had served with her mother's younger brother in the Marines in the South Pacific. They were married shortly thereafter.
In 1950, she gave birth to her only child, Dannie Scott Goeb. Jean and Charley continued to live in Baltimore where she was trained as a bookkeeper. She excelled in providing her services to businesses over the next 40 years.
An amazing Christian woman, Jean was a compassionate caregiver to her mother, a devoted wife to Charley, doting mother to her son Dan, and a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an advocate for her community, and active in every aspect of neighborhood life. She began a tradition of serving as an election poll worker in Baltimore.
In 1984, Jean and Charley moved to Pearland, Texas to be near their only son and his family.
Jean lost her husband, Charley, in 2002 after nearly 57 years of marriage. For the next 14 years she lived in Pearland and later in Houston spending time with family and friends. She had a sharp mind, quick wit, and was instantly loved by everyone she met. She worshiped at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Pearland.
She loved her family most. She was proud of all of them. She was an excellent bridge player, and enjoyed watching sports, including golf, football, baseball, and was an avid Rockets fan. She closely followed politics and had her share of opinions on many topics.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Charley, and is survived by her only son Dan Goeb Patrick and his wife Janetlea Patricia Patrick, grandson Ryan Goeb Patrick and his wife, Kellie Nicole Patrick, granddaughter, Shane Patrick Scruggs and her husband Jared Ryan Scruggs, four great-grandchildren, as well as countless friends.
There will be a private service for the family and their close friends in Houston on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Be An Angel, www.BeAnAngel.org.

Lady Jean was truly my friend. We shared many stories on life, parenting, Family Feud, and basketball. We talked many nights about everything that was anything. I'll miss your stories, wit, and your "Hello Keish" and "See You Later Keish"....

Jean was a great lady of charm and dignity, a proud matriarch of a great family. We were privileged to have known and loved her, always gracious and smiling. She will be greatly missed by all, but we know we will meet again someday, where there will be no more pain or sorrow. May God give peace and comfort to all the family.
With our deepest sympathy,
