Vincent DiGerlando Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 22, 2023.
Vincent Peter DiGerlando, age 80, of Spring Lake Heights, New Jersey, unexpectedly but peacefully passed away on October 9, 2023. He was born on July 30, 1943, in Newark, New Jersey, to his loving parents Josephine Spadone DiGerlando and Joseph DiGerlando. He is survived by his siblings Salvatore/Sal (Jackie) and Assunta/Susan (Louie), as well as his daughters Iona (Chad), Corin (Dan), and Lenore (Scott). He was so proud to be "Pa Vin" to his grandsons Gavin and Codey, as well as his spirit grandchildren Kenzie and Callie, Zander, Zoe, and Isabella. Vincent left this earthly realm after a life well-lived and loved.

Vincent will be remembered as a kind-hearted, caring, and loving individual with an artistic soul. Throughout his life, he showcased his creative talent as a visual artist, leaving behind remarkable bodies of work that reflected his curious nature, desire to inflict emotion and passion for the arts. His work, born from the depths of his subconscious and conscious mind revealed a unique perspective on life showcased in all of his art.

Vincent's contributions to the world of design were notable. He had an instrumental role in designing iconic album covers and logos for legendary artists such as KISS, Paul McCartney, and Diana Ross just to name a few. He also took great care and detail in designing silver ingot series for the Silver Mint. Vincent's artistic endeavors extended beyond the realm of visual arts as he ventured into the world of publishing, sharing his unique vision through works such as Mind Visions, Collective Portraiture, Art Is My Life, Conceptual Realities, and his most recent body of work Anomalies.

In addition to his creative pursuits, Vincent found fulfillment in serving others as a massage therapist and a dedicated yoga instructor. He possessed a gentle spirit that endeared him to those who sought solace and healing through his expert hands and calming presence. Vincent also found joy in simple pleasures, spending time on the boardwalk, basking in the warmth of the sun on the beach, and capturing the essence of humanity through his sketchbook. He treasured his time with cherished friends, for whom he always had an open ear and a compassionate heart. Vincent's talent extended to the realm of culinary delights as well and his homemade ice cream creations were legendary among those lucky enough to indulge in its creamy goodness.

He shared his thoughts, inspiration, humor, support and love with the world through driftwood word art and hidden painted hearts on rocks and trees, leaving his creative trail wherever he went.

Vincent served his country honorably as a member of the 50th Armor Div. Mechanized Infantry Army National Guard.

A celebration of life to pay tribute to Vincent's unique creative journey will be held on May 18, 2024, from 2:30pm to 4:30pm, at a place he enjoyed very much, Silverball Retro Arcade, located at 1000 Ocean Ave N, Asbury Park, NJ 07712. It is an opportunity for family, friends, and loved ones to come together to share and enjoy cherished memories and find solace in their collective support. They can also feel his presence in some of the things he loved.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions:

The Indie Arts Collective Montclair NJ, a respected 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that passionately supports local and emerging arts. >

We have set up a Memorial Grove of trees in his name through an organization called Trees for a Change.

With every bite of ice cream (perhaps in your coffee), handful of popcorn, crash of the waves and many other ways Vincent DiGerlando's memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family, friends and all those who knew and loved him.

He was our neighbor, in Newark his parents were the reason why we stayed there after the riots. On occasion we would bump into them near the bakery or Italian market which was not too far from the chocolate factory. I remember him also in many reincarnates , one year he came back let his hair grow out with that handsome face, piercing blue eyes like his dad. Looked like a rock star sent us swooning seeing him in cut offs.

Vinnie was a generous soul, who expressed kindness, caring and peace from his heart. Someone I always was touched by his being. He will be missed by many...

Vin was my cousin, 3 years my senior. I have such fond memories of him growing up. I always looked forward to Uncle Joe coming to visit us with the kids (Sal, Vin and Sue) in tow. During our formative years (teens) he introduced me to new things such as "Bob Dylan", "The Byrds", and Mad magazine. I knew early on that he viewed life from a different lens. He was such a caring and gentle soul and always challenged me to look at things from a different perspective. He was a gift to this world and will be truly missed. I would like to think that I am a better person for having known him.

Vincent and I lived close together so I saw him once in a while at the market and he was also friends with my parents and they got to eat his great ice cream. All my condolences I'm terribly sorry for your loss and just one thing about your dad your ex whoever he is to you he always had that power of Calming me down just by being there. And I'll never forget that I've yet to meet another person With that particular quality. He will be remembered and he will be missed.
