Vincent Liberto Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 23 to Sep. 27, 2019.
On Friday September 20th, 2019, Vincent ""Vinnie"" Liberto, Jr, loving husband and father to seven children, was killed in the Line of Duty serving his community and doing what he loved. Vince was born March 27th, 1961 and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he graduated Brother Martin High School and was a lifelong Saints fan. He has spent the last 30 years raising his family in Mandeville, LA with his doting wife. Vince was a decorated U.S. Marine combat veteran serving in Operation Desert Storm. He is a 25 year veteran of the Mandeville Police Department, though he served for almost 30 years in law enforcement with different agencies. He was a leader not only with his family, but his community as well. During his time serving in the United States Marines Corps and as a Police Officer, Vince achieved many accomplishments, most recently being a graduate of the FBI National Academy and becoming a certified polygraph examiner; ultimately rising to the rank of Captain within the Mandeville Police Department. He was a kind gentle giant who consistently committed himself to be a leader, coach, and mentor to everyone he met; a strong staple within his community, and a man who was so dearly passionate, loyal, and dedicated to his family, his friends, his profession, and all whom he touched. He is survived by his loving wife Tracey Bayard Liberto, and their seven children, Vincent ""Vinnie"" Liberto III (Julie); Chad ""Joey"" Liberto (Karleigh), Michael Liberto, Bailee Dean (Michael ""Buckethead""), Tyler McIntyre, Dominic Liberto, and Victoria ""Tori"" Liberto. He is also survived by his father, Dr. Vincent Liberto, Sr. (Betsy); brothers and sisters Lucinda Liberto, Colonel Ignatius Liberto (Rhonda), Salvador Liberto (Amy), and Camella Grau (Benjamin); grandsons, Aden & Hugh B. Dean and William Liberto; and numerous loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Vince is survived by his wife's parents Peggy Kirkland King (Wayne), and Ronald A. Bayard & the late Sheron Cook Bayard; her siblings Celeste Foto (Jude); Lance Senner (Kristie); Shelly Senner Scott; and Ryan Bayard (Stephanie). He is proceeded in death by his mother, Coralie Chachere Liberto; his adoptive mother, Catherine Vicari Liberto; his grandparents, Ignatius ""Nat"" & Mary Liberto and Tilghman & Gertrude Coralie Chachere; his sister Mary Beth Liberto; and his brother, Corporal David Liberto. All family and friends are invited to celebrate Vince's life on Friday, September 27, 2019 at the Castine Center. Visitation will be held, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m and the Memorial Ceremony will start at noon. The address for the Castine Center is 63350 Pelican Drive, Mandeville, LA 70448.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ""Vincent Liberto Jr Fund"" at Resource Bank, or the ""Vincent Liberto Jr Memorial Fund"" at Hancock Whitney Bank. Liberty family,
I do not know Vincent or any of the family.
I am originally from the 9th Ward, then Kenner......
Joined the Corps in 90, Desert Storm, etc.
Now in Texas after college.
I was a mere Cpl in a MEUSOC BLT B Co 1/1......
Sorry for your loss........
I feel sad that I was not able know Vincent or those in the Mandeville community.
I regret sometimes moving away from the area.
My brother-in-law (Chet McCullough) brought the tragedy to my attention and I feel a sense of loss even though I never met him. From what I heard Vincent would have been an awesome friend and mentor!!!!
Will always remember him in my prayers, all the family too!
Semper Fidelis,
Greg

Tracey,
Anne Marie and I met and spent some time with you and Vinnie several years ago at a polygraph conference in Orlando. Our sincerest and heartfelt condolences go out to you and your family. Even though we met you both only that one time, we have fond memories of dining in Disney Springs and soaking up the sunshine by the lazy river at the hotel with the 2 of you, all in between and after conference classes of course! As a fellow LEO, my family shares in your grief but also shares in the knowledge that serving others is who LEOs are and why we do it, and Vinnie definitely epitomized that. Please take some solace in the fact that Vinnie touched the lives of so many in a good way and that fellow LEO families throughout the country are sharing in your loss.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family. he was such a stong devoted husband and father, Vinnie will truly be missed. My encounters with Vinnie are at family functions and he was ALWAYS so proud of his family and wouldn't miss a family function if he could help it. He would come straight from getting off work in his uniform to attend and was always happy and laughing. May God be with YOU and YOUR FAMILY.
Love you and all,

I served with Vince during Desert Storm with STA Platoon, 3rd Battalion, 23rd Marines. I remember him as an outgoing, friendly, larger than life guy who was a great example for younger Marines. May God bless his family during this time.

I never met or knew this man, but read about this tragedy while catching up on news from New Orleans, my hometown. As a former Marine myself, I am not at all surprised that Capt. Liberto did what he did in the last moments of his life on earth. While what happened to him is unfair, the world is a better place because of people like him, but sadly, there are not many of his caliber remaining. My sincere condolences to his family and colleagues.
