Vincent Sherman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 1, 2021.
Vincent Paul Sherman, a loving big brother, father of two and a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, was a talented and widely-respected senior litigator. Vince passed away on July 1st at the age of 53. Born on February 5, 1968, in Alabama, to the late Vincent Joseph and Lorna Mae Sherman, he had been a dedicated and loving son. Vince graduated in 1990 from Princeton University's School of Public and International Affairs. After graduation he became an Intelligence Officer at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Virginia, and led the Command Briefing team on geopolitical and military developments. During the 4 years that he was an Air Force officer, Vince served proudly during Operation Desert Storm, while deployed in Saudi Arabia. He left the Air Force as a Captain to pursue a law degree at New York University, receiving his JD, cum laude, in 1998. He started his law career at Sullivan and Cromwell, LLP, one of the most well-known law firms in the country, in New York City. During his over twenty years as a litigator, he worked at several other leading law firms, as well as senior counsel at the SEC's Division of Enforcement in New York, and in an in-house role in regulatory affairs. He was a trusted advisor to all of his clients. His friends and colleagues remember his wit and humor. In May 2001, Vince married Elycia Sherman. They had 2 daughters: Paige, currently 18 (who will be a freshman at Princeton this fall), and Brooke, currently 12. Vince and Elycia were separated in the summer of 2018, although legally married through the remainder of his life. Vince was a devoted and loving father of his daughters and enjoyed spending quality time with them despite his demanding legal career. Vince was close with his uncle, Msgr. Anthony F. Sherman, the recently retired pastor of St. Anastasia Roman Catholic Church, as well as his sister, Terri Gendron and her family. Vince was very fond of his nephew and niece and enjoyed spending time with his sister's family at their lake house in Connecticut. In addition to his family and close friends, Vince is survived by his trusty companion, Zoey, a black Labrador. Outside the courtroom, Vince will be remembered for his passionate obsession with soccer and football. He was a proud fan of Chelsea (the English soccer team) and the Dallas Cowboys football team. No one could compete with his deep knowledge of 1980's music. In his free time, Vince posted about public issues on his Twitter account.
