VIOLA “VI” BAILEY
June 29, 1930 ˜ January 13, 2022

Our wonderful Mother, Viola “Vi” Bailey, age 91, took her first heavenly breath early Thursday morning, Jan. 13, 2022. She was born June 29, 1930, in Diehlstadt, MO, to Luchen and Leona Hicks.
While attending high school there, she met and fell in love with Floyd Bailey. Dad and Mom were married on July 24, 1948, in Sikeston, MO. They moved to Vancouver, WA, in 1965 where Dad continued his career in the insurance industry.
During her life, she nourished people around her with love, faith, selfless devotion, and great humor. Mom loved playing golf with a lady’s group at Green Meadows Golf Course, enjoyed playing the piano, playing cards, and was a member of the First Church of God.
She believed the key to living a long life was to keep moving; go to the store and shop, go for a walk, walk around the house, but always be active. She kept moving by participating in her favorite sport bowling. At age 90, she maintained an average of 140 as she bowled on two separate senior leagues per week at Bailey’s Tiger Bowl in Battle Ground, WA. She will be remembered as a shining light among her family and friends.
Mom was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; her parents, Luchen and Leona; her sisters, Patsy Ruth Hicks and Jean Lee; her brother, Jackie Hicks; and her great-grandchildren, Conner and Malia Raygor.
She is survived by her three children, Dennis (Robin) Bailey, Vikie (Greg) Malkasian, and Phyllis Cowlishaw; sister, Freda Michaels; grandchildren, Justine Raygor, Avery Bailey, Ashlie Arana, Erin Williams, Tiffany Fisher, Jennifer Coomes, Jeff Malkasian and Sophia Malkasian; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Owen, Kaleb, Lillian, Izabelle, Liberty, Kayleigh, Olivia, Sevan, Araksia, and Jason Dean.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022, 12:30 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 1101 N.E. 112th Avenue, Vancouver, WA 98684. A reception and interment of ashes will follow the celebration of life. Family and friends are invited to attend.
The family would like to extend our gratitude to staff at Kaiser Permanente Oncology, especially to Dr. Boriboonsomsin “Dr. B” for providing Mom excellent medical care and emotional support. Also, we would like to thank Kaiser Hospice staff for their attentiveness and loving care that supported Mom and the family in the last weeks of her life.
