Viola Klang Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 5, 2020.
Viola G. Klang (nee Gruendler) passed away peacefully on April 28, 2020 one day after her 102nd birthday. Born on April 27, 1918 to Matilda and George Gruendler, she is predeceased by beloved husband of over 50 years, Felix (Phil) Klang and her sister, Mattie. She is survived by her devoted sons and daughters-in-law: Mark and his wife, Linda and Donald and his wife, Patty and was graced by her grandchildren Donnie (and his wife, Melissa), Jennifer (and her husband, Justin), Nicole and Danielle and two great-grandchildren: Cade Salvatore Norbury and London Parker Klang. Viola worked in Woolworth's in Jamaica many years ago and told many stories of her time there. She sold war bonds when Phil was in the Army during the Second World War. In addition to raising her sons, she enjoyed hosting parties at home, baking (cheesecake and checkerboard cake were favorites), crocheting and doing latch hook, traveling throughout the US and spending time in her and Phil's trailer at the State parks on the east end of Long Island. Above all, she delighted in her family and was always finding ways to treat her children and grandchildren. Viola was a devoted parishioner of the Holy Child Jesus Church in Richmond Hill, New York. She was a life-long member of the Rosary Society where she served in a number of leadership roles. She worked on numerous fund raising projects at Holy Child Jesus School which her sons attended and in her later years, she was a volunteer helping in the rectory counting collection money. There will be limited visitation hours at Leo F. Kearns funeral home at 8566 115th Street (at Myrtle Ave.) in Richmond Hill on Thursday, May 7th between 9 AM and 12:30 PM. She ultimately will be interred at Maple Grove Cemetery.

Grandma,

I am missing you every day. Wishing you were here to see your great grandson grow. I know you're with us. Keep shining your light. Every day I remember our diner dates, your obsession with diner breadsticks, whiskey sours, watching us ride our scooters, spending Christmas morning with us (taking forever to put male up on to sit on the couch), creative ways to hide money in our Christmas gifts, your giving nature supplying us with ice pops, yoo-hoos, cookies, Lolli pops...you name it. I love you and I miss your hugs and laughter.

To my Grandma,

You have no idea how much you are loved. I will miss you so much. I cherish all of the memories. The yoo hoos, lemon pie, big cookie and tootsie pops. Bringing the gifts to the altar for Papa Klangs services. Coloring on Papa Klangs built in work bench, celebrating home days and playing with Henry. There are just so many things I will miss. Seeing your smile and your beautiful light blue eyes. Hearing your stories, going to dinner with you, christmas morning and all the times you'd spend the night with us. I love you always.

Aunt Vi was the prettiest woman I ever knew . She was my moms best friend and my Godmother. She always, always had a smile on her face. Aunt Vi always had the best hugs. She made the best sweet potatoes, you know with the marshmallows on top. I sure am glad I got to visit with her last June. I love you Aunt Vi and know you are happy with Uncle Phil and my mommy. You will be missed by all who ever new you. Love you always.
