Viola Mlasko Obituary

Chassell Viola H. Mlasko, 90, a resident of Chassell passed away Saturday evening December 4, 2010, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock where she had been a patient for the past two months. She was born on February 26, 1920, in Painesdale, a daughter of the late Frank and Jennie S. (Laakaniemi) Ylitalo. Viola attended the Painesdale Schools, Trimountain schools and Jeffers School. She moved to New York to be a Beautician and in 1943 she moved to Detroit and began a career as a machinist working for Futurmill. In 1943 she was untied in marriage to Phil Kemppainen and he preceded her in death in 1969. In 1971, she was united in marriage to Joseph Mlasko together the couple made their home in Chassell. Joe preceded her in death in 2006. Mrs. Mlasko was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church of Chassell, she enjoyed gardening roses, cooking, and spending time in the outdoors. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husbands and a sister Vieno Honkavaara. Surviving are: Her step-children: Joseph (Betty) Mlasko of Cedar Park, TX Jerry Mlasko of Toledo, OH Jeff (Brenda) Mlasko of West Branch, MI Jack Mlasko of California Debra Larson of West Branch, MI Her brother: Roy (Karin) Ylitalo of Rockford, IL Several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A prayer service for Viola will be held 10:00 am Saturday December 11, 2010, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral home in Chassell with Fr. Al Mott to officiate. Friends may call on Saturday December 11, 2010, from 9 am until time of services at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Chassell. Spring burial will be in the Mt. View Cemetery of South Range.
