Viola Rhodes, 90, of Hancock, NY, passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at the home of her daughter, Brenda, after an illness. She was born on July 11, 1931 in Staten Island, NY, the daughter of Louis and Rose Pascarella. Viola married Donald H. Rhodes Sr. on June 6, 1953 in Staten Island, NY, and he predeceased her on April 24, 2009.
Viola was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Hancock. She worked in the cafeteria at Hancock Central School for 20 years. Viola loved doing ceramics and watching Gunsmoke. She could often be found just sitting at her kitchen table where she was most content.
Surviving are 2 children, David Rhodes and Brenda (Walter) Terry; 5 grandchildren: John (Shannon), Lisa (Scott), Donald III, Ben (Kristin), and Chris; 10 great grandchildren: Austin, Ethan, Matthew, Aiden, Evan, Dylan, Sophie, Scarlet, Bailey, and Carter; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her long time friend of 60+ years, Marilyn Dugon. Viola was predeceased by her 2 sons; Brian and Donald Jr.; and all of her 9 siblings: Thomas, Joseph, Charlie, Louis, Jake, Terri, Della, Jessie, and Lala.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, February 6th, 2022 from 3PM-6PM at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock. There will be a funeral mass on Monday, February 7th, 2022 at 9:30AM at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Hancock. Interment will take place in East Branch Cemetery, East Branch, NY, in the spring.
Memorial donations can be made in Viola’s memory to St. Paul’s Church, 346 W. Main St., Hancock, NY 13783.

Mrs Rhodes, Was a very nice lady. I remember her working in the school cafeteria from days gone bye. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. Cherish all the great memories you have.

Viola was deeply loved especially by her grandson, Chris. My son, Adam, always raved about her wonderful cooking and appreciated her kindness. RIP Viola!

She will always be Mrs. Rhodes to me and I cherish the memories of growing up with her in our lives. My thoughts and prayers to Brenda and Dave and all those she leaves behind. Hers was a life well lived and she will be missed.
