THOMASVILLE - Mr. James "Jim" Douglas Lewis Sr. died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006, at Britthaven of Davidson after a brief illness. He was born May 5, 1920, in North Andover, Mass., the son of George Thomas Lewis and Elizabeth Craig Lewis, both of whom preceded him in death. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church of Thomasville, where he sang in the choir and was past president of United Methodist Men. He served as secretary and past president of the Hasty Lion's Club and was a member of Woodman of the World. Jim enjoyed golf and played as long as health permitted. Jim was preceded in death by a half sister, Helen Manchester. On July 1, 1944, he married Ellen Saintsing who survives of the home. Also surviving are two sons, J. Douglas "Doug" Lewis Jr. and his wife, Kathy, of Warner Robins, Ga., and Z. Mark Lewis and his wife, Sue, of Wallburg; four grandchildren, M. Scott Lewis and his wife, Kim, Ashley Minshew and her husband, Chad, Natalie Athey and her husband, Kit, and Katie Ruhlen and her husband, Andy; six great-grandchildren, Ashley and Justin Lewis, Patrick and Paige Minshew and Lily and Ansley Athey; and a great-great-grandchild, Jalen Bridges. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Mardsen Kitley, OSL, officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the music fund at First United Methodist Church of Thomasville, 100 E. Sunrise Ave., Thomasville, NC 27360.
