Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 23, 2009.
VIRGIL M. SEATON Virgil M. Seaton was born the son of Maynard and Eleanor (Hopke) Seaton in Pine River, Minnesota on February 6, 1932 and died at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa on March 23, 2009 at the age of 77 years, 1 month and 17 days. Virgil graduated from Pine River High School in 1950. He worked at various jobs and while at one in Redfield, Iowa he met Pauline (Pat) Thompson. Pat and Virgil were married in Redfield on October 3, 1954. This union was blessed with three children: Gary, Gaye and Greg. Virgil worked as a Des Moines Fireman for 10 years and then purchased "The Shady Oakes" Restaurant and bar in Webster City. After several years Virgil moved his family to Earlham in 1973 and Virgil worked at Montgomery Ward in Des Moines as a salesman in the automotive department, until his retirement in 1994. Virgil continued to keep busy working at various part-time jobs. He was an Earlham Volunteer fireman, an Iowa Cubs fan, loved to watch sports on television, enjoyed driving around town and visiting with people at the coffee shop. Virgil never missed an opportunity to play cards with his friends. Virgil was very proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Virgil leaves the following family to celebrate his life: son Gary of Des Moines; daughter Gaye Hougham and husband Ron of Earlham; son Greg Seaton and wife Jodie of Kearney, Missouri, brother Larry Seaton of Knoxville, Iowa; 5 grandchildren: Mike Kasal; Brett Kasal; Ryan Hougham; Derrick Seaton and Allison Seaton; 2 great-grandchildren: Elisabeth Kasal and Kaden Kasal; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Pauline and a brother Neil Seaton. Virgil M. I'm following the path God laid for me. I took His hand when I heard His call. I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day. To laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way. I've found my peace at the close of the day. If parting has left a void. Then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss. Ah yes, these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with time of sorrow. I wish you sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full. I've savored much. Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seemed all to brief. Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up you hearts and share with me. God wanted me now, He set me free. unknown

I was saddened to hear about Virgil passing. He was always there with a smile or a joke and always made you a bit happier for having known him. He was a good neighbor to Grandma for all of those years and I know he was very special to her. His legacy is left behind in what an awesome family he had. My thoughts and prayers are with you all!

My heartfelt sympathy for your loss. I know it has been years since we have seen each other, but I will never forget our youth and how much your parents meant to me. Surely he will be missed in your lives and in the lives of your children and grandchildren. May you always treasure his stories and make them a part of the rest of your lives. What an example to follow. With my love, Cindy
