Virgil E. Thompson, 81, of Sardinia, died Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at Hospice of Hope Ohio Valley Inpatient Center in Seaman.
He was a member of the Southern Ohio Draft Horse Association, Ohio Buckeye Draft Horse Association, Ohio Belgian Association, Mowrystown Church of Christ, a US Army veteran, longtime farmer in Winchester, and had worked at Milk Marketing Inc. of Sardinia, Lafe Armstrong Milk Hauling in Winchester, Kibler Lumber Company and was a sub-custodian at Eastern Middle School.
Mr. Thompson was born May 27, 1933 in Adams County, the son of the late Elvis Vernon and Goldie Smalley Thompson. He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Lavora Windom, Delpha Neu, Geneva Fist, and Allene Wardlow; and one brother, Olen Thompson.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene Thompson; one daughter, Vikki Thompson of Sardinia; one sister, Elizabeth Russell of Mowrystown; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held at Mowrystown Church of Christ on Saturday, April 4. A Celebration of Life was held Saturday, April 4 at the church. Pastors Chris Gobin and John Neu officiated. The Highland County Honor Guard conducted military honors following the celebration. The Edgington Funeral Home, in Mowrystown, serving the family.
