Ginny was an important influence of my life. We were not far apart in age. She was part of Police Wives with my mother. And she lived around the corner of my house.
I baby sat for her and busy children. We became fast friends in spite of the age difference at the time.we took art courses together and her family was wonderful. She taught me how to sew. I regret not keeping in touch so much. She was a guiding light. Rest in Peace

My first memory of Ginny (and Tom) was at a gig at Cacona Villa in Treasure Beach, where they were staying, circa 1998. There was a light around this woman and the freedom of her dance and her infectious smile was a sight to behold that has stayed with me all the years since. My last memory was when I visited Ginny and Tom at their home in Jamaica Plain a year ago. Tom had put together a book of Ginny's paintings that he would view with her every day. We looked at it together and it was striking how her light . . . and that infectious smile . . . were still as strong as ever. I count myself as lucky that I was able to spend time with her and Tom over many decades. If there are any grumpy angels in Heaven, they won't be anymore now that Ginny O'Neil is in the house.

I did not know Ginny well, but when we met over twenty years ago, I immediately felt I´d found a kindred spirit. She was a warm, creative, loving, and passionate woman whose smile lit up any room she entered! I was honored to receive a copy of her famous family painting at my 60th birthday party and welcomed as "an O'Neil sister" - I only wish we´d stayed in touch. I offer my deepest condolences, and know she lives on in the hearts of all who loved her.

Ginny was both tender and strong, and a wonderful artist. I have several of her works in my home.
She will be greatly missed here in Treasure Beach.

To all of the Cannings and Ginny´s big beautiful family:
Please accept our most sincere condolences on the passing of your Mom.
Our families seemed destined from the beginning to be joined in so many ways. It started in JP when my Mom, Pat (Goodrich) Murray became best and life-long friends with your Aunt Diane, and of course knew your Mom too as they grew up. Then we met your family when we all lived just a few doors apart on Prospect St., in HP. I remember the great street hockey games and bike rides all over the neighborhood.
I remember your Mom as warm and welcoming and with a great laugh!
Then, I met your cousin Paul, your Dad´s nephew (Uncle Ron´s son) in high school and we have been together since 1978. I remember all of the Cannings, including some of those now grown great-great grandchildren, celebrating Grammy Canning´s birthday. And I am so happy that everyone has continued these connections over the years.
It is truly a tribute to your Mom that she raised such a strong, resilient and warm family that extends far and wide. She was a beautiful person inside and out. Please know, we wish you peace in your time of sorrow and we are holding you in our hearts.
Warmly,
Christine Murray Canning, Paul and Aidan Canning

Tom and Ginny were a massive part of the history of Treasure Beach, Jamaica and their artwork has helped to memorialize a very special era of this community. Condolences to our dear Tom and we know Ginny is dancing her special dance in a better place right now.
