Virginia Granozio Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 28, 2025.
Virginia (Ginny) Mae Hoyer Granozio, 80, of Indian Land, S.C., died peacefully after a brief illness Feb. 24, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Jackson, Mich., Ginny is survived by her husband of 56 years, James Granozio, of Indian Land; daughter, Gina Tonello (John) of Matthews, N.C.; son, James Granozio of Fort Mill, S.C.; grandchildren Alyssa and Evan Burmeister of Baldwinsville, N.Y., and Gavin and Mason Granozio of Fort Mill. She is also survived by sisters Nancy Bland of Jackson, Mich., and Janice Lather of Mount Pleasant, Mich.; her brother Brian Hoyer (Nancy) of Richland, Mich; and several nieces and nephews.

Ginny graduated from Jackson High School in 1962 and worked as a telephone operator before studying to become a teacher. She graduated from Central Michigan University in 1967, and taught first grade in Jackson before marrying and moving to Syracuse, where she taught first grade at Smith Road Elementary School. Ginny was a stay-at-home mom and active in her community while her kids grew up in Phoenix, N.Y. She later worked as a substitute teacher at Phoenix Central Schools and worked as the school's homebound instructor for many years.

Whether with friends, family, her daughter or grandchildren, Ginny loved to shop and find bargains, especially at Kohl's. She was a wonderful cook, and loved to play cards, games, and Mahjong with family, friends and her neighbors in Sun City. She lived a full and energetic life, always lending a helping hand and caring for those around her.

Ginny and Jim were constant companions, traveled together, shared many laughs and were truly devoted to one another. Ginny cherished being with her children and grandchildren, to whom she was affectionately known as GiGi, a name she loved. She was a loving wife, mother and friend, and a warm, caring and honest person with a great sense of humor and a wonderful laugh. She built lasting friendships in Syracuse, Tuscon and in Sun City, always one to worry about others, not herself. Ginny touched many lives with her sweetness and kindness. All who met her quickly learned how genuinely sweet she was.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Francis House (https://francishouseny.org/) in Syracuse, NY.
