Virginia Hagen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 4, 2024.
Virginia Anna King Hagen, 84, of Tolland, CT, passed away on May 29, 2024. She was born on April 10, 1940, in Hempstead, New York. She also resided in Napa, CA, Riverhead, NY, and Port St. Lucie, FL. An alumna of Hofstra University, Virginia, known affectionately as "Ginger," was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

Ginger was a sweet soul with a witty sense of humor and kindness. Her biggest legacy was instilling in her children the importance of family, unconditional love, and acceptance for all. She adored her fur babies, Mystic, Storm, Phoenix, and Billo, and cherished evenings spent watching movies with them by her side. Ginger loved life and fought hard to stay well for her children. She embraced grace and gratitude, finding beauty in all people and making new friends even in her last days at the hospital. She often expressed that her religion was love.

Ginger was a dedicated teacher of early childhood education and special needs. Her passion for teaching touched the lives of many students throughout her career.

In her free time, Ginger enjoyed crocheting, playing mind games, reading, gardening, birdwatching, watching old movies, and most of all, spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughters Dawn Hagen and Dyana Hagen, grandchildren Jordan Hirsch, Madalyn Smither, Carly Hirsch, great-grandchild Leon Smither, brother Richard King, and Cousin Ronald Zoeller as well as many extended family and friends. Ginger was preceded in death by her parents, Gertrude and Raymond King, and the love of her life Robert Hagen in 1972.

A Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date to include her family from across the country.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, American Heart Association, or American Kidney Association in memory of Virginia King Hagen.

Rest in peace, Ginger. Your love and kindness will forever be remembered.

Virginia Hagen was the one and only auntie I've ever known. I was a little girl when I last saw her. I remember walking into my classroom at grade school, and she was my classes' substitute teacher. I wish I'd seen her more over the years, as I remember her as the sweetest woman. When I didn't receive a reply from her a few years ago, I knew that she must not have been well. I will always remember my Aunt Gini with the warmest of feelings and love.

I'm so glad mom made it to my hooding ceremony two days before her attack. She was so happy, and looks great here.

Mom shared our lives in the past four years of living in CT. She lived a full life and we are grateful for our memories with her. I hope you are dancing in heaven with our dad! Love you forever...
