Vittoria E. Sowers 1928 - 2013 SPRINGFIELD - Vittoria Emanuela "Ela" (Martone) Sowers, 84, of 55 Sylvan St. passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Mercy Hospital. Born in San Nicola, Italy, Ela was the daughter of the late Angelo and Agnese (Simone) Martone. Ela was a former cafeteria worker for the city of Springfield School Dept., and was a communicant of Holy Name Church. She is survived by a son, Thomas A. Sowers, of Chester, MA, two daughters, Mary Sowers of Springfield, MA, and Kathleen LaPorte and her husband Joel of East Longmeadow, MA, two sisters, Maria Cardinale of Italy & Antonietta Rinaldi of France, seven grandchildren, Anthony, Andrea & Gina Sowers, Stefanie Savoie, Daniel, Alana & Mia LaPorte, and five great-grandchildren, Joey, Dylan, Preston, Mason & Mia. She was predeceased by her husband, John J. Sowers in 2004, two sons, Michael Sowers in 1989 and Anthony Sowers in 2000, and two sisters, Bruna Grella and Lina Solomita. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 14, 2013 at 8:45 am from the Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow, MA, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Holy Name Church, 323 Dickinson St., Springfield. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Sunday, January 13th from 3:00-6:00 pm.
