Mrs. Vivian Antionette Spicely Walker, 96, of Dinwiddie County, VA, peacefully entered eternal rest on January 22, 2023, in Midlothian, VA. The youngest of 10 children, she was born on April 3, 1926, to the late Deacon James Edward Spicely and Deaconess Virginia Hawkins Spicely. She was known by her friends as “Vee” and to her nieces and nephews as “Aunt Vee”.
At an early age, Vivian accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized at Bloomfield Baptist Church in Wilsons, VA, later moving her membership to Mount Poole Baptist Church in Ford, VA. She was a teacher for Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and was very active in the Missionary and Hospitality Ministries, as well as the Sanctuary Choir.
Vivian completed her elementary school education in the Dinwiddie County School System. Upon graduation, she attended Saint Paul’s College in Lawrenceville, VA, for two years with a concentration in Cosmetology. Vivian married her husband, Fred D. Walker, on October 26, 1947, and to this union three daughters were born: Maurice, Cynthia, and Dolores.
Vivian was gainfully employed at Model Laundry, Petersburg, VA and at Virginia State College (now University) until her retirement in 1996. She enjoyed singing, reading various genres of books, magazines, news articles, and working on crossword puzzles. Her favorite book to read was the Bible.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Fred; brothers: Lloyd, James ”Archie” (Dorothy), Hugo (Mattie Arlene), Preston, Eddie (Edith); sisters: Elaine Jones (Isham), Inez Cragg (Garfield), Edwina Clarke (Jessie), Hilda Bower (Linwood); nieces: Elaine Knight and Ernestine Fields; Nephews: James Cragg, Douglas Spicely (Erma), and Michael Spicely.
Vivian leaves to cherish precious memories her devoted and dedicated daughters: Maurice Taylor (Melvin), Prince George, VA, Cynthia Mitchell, Midlothian, VA, and Dolores White (Kevin), Portsmouth, VA; four granddaughters: Monika Taylor-Lewis (Mark), Kanesha Taylor, Danielle Reid (Jeremy), Ebony Butler (Reginald), Kara Mitchell; three grandsons: Tony R. Baugh, Jr., Likevin White, Brandon White (Lyne); seven great-granddaughters: Adrianna Willis, Likhyri Jones, Chaunsa Saunders, MaKayla Butler, LiKayla White, Gabrielle Butler, and Jasmine Reid; one great-great-granddaughter: Milan Murray; eleven nieces: Dorothy Walker, Emma Johnson, Diane Inge (Acie), Rosalee Edmendson, Debra Jones (Melvin), Shelia Roberts, Juanita Edmonds (Sherman), Lucy Jones, Wanda Gill, Dolly Spicely, Lizzie Stokes, and Bessie Greenhill; two sisters-in-law: Millie Spicely and Martha Walker; eight nephews: Jack Walter Wilson, III (Annie), Roylee Cragg, Winston Bower (Linda), Gregory Gill (Thomasina), Andre Gill, Donald Spicely (Michelle), Anthony Spicely (Mena), Brian Fields, and Eddie Spicely, Jr.; 15 great nieces; 13 great nephews; 18 great-great nieces; 17 great-great nephews, host of family and friends; and grand dog, Blu, who was by her side during her final hours.
The family wishes to thank Mrs. Marguerite Hill, who provided care for our mother for three years. During mom’s final months, Caregiver Rose Johnson took excellent care of mom and introduced her to Rance Allen. She fell in love with “the big guy” and enjoyed watching his videos and listening to his music.
Our family would also like to extend a special thank you to Care Advantage, Dr. Crane Niblack, and James River Health and Hospice for the outstanding care shown to our mother. In memory of Mrs. Walker, the family also requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Missionary Ministry at the Mount Poole Baptist Church, P.O. Box 23, Ford, VA 23850. Additionally, we kindly request that all food items be
omitted.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 30, 2023, at the Mount Poole Baptist Church, 9515 Baltimore Road, Ford, Virginia. Bishop Kevin R. White, Senior Pastor of Covenant Fellowship Church in Chesapeake, VA will be officiating, and Minister Tony R. Baugh, Jr. (grandson) will be eulogizing. Interment will immediately follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2023, from noon to 6 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
