Von, I just found out that you have left us too soon. We played on the Junior high basketball team together and competed in track and field. You were the only kid that could dunk as an eight grader! I remember joking with you that your coach signed you up for the 400 meter dash so we could run together! your long jumps were out of this world.
I heard of your success in education, administration and coaching. You have made a difference for many.
You are fun loving, kind, a great all around competitor and you made everyone around you better.

I met Von when he was in college at Nebraska, my home state. He has always been determined to go further and do better! Which is definitely seen in the memories he leaves behind. He will never be forgotten.

Dear Von,
I literally just heard about you going home to be with our Lord within this hour. It has been years since our last exchange; regardless, you've (and your family) remained in my prayers.
I have fond memories of our high school days and the wonderful athletes and cheerleaders from our schools (St. Paul Central and Minneapolis North), especially when we got to play against each other! Good clean fun (trash talk) and competition! Blessings for eternal rest and peace my friend.

My friend we had some great time we were both great athletes I remember our senior year we were the only two who it t state the year we would sit in the shade and talk and laugh and I remember when our children played football against eachother they both were interceptions on eachother and we both found out it was our children lol great memories my friend rest in peace condolences to the family

I had the pleasure of working with Principal Sheppard at Dayton´s Bluff Elementary in Saint Paul, MN as he was turning it around. Whether he was heading the annual parade with Clifford the Big Red Dog not far behind, or accepting an award from President Bush´s staff member at a cheering school assembly, Mr. Sheppard knew how to make his school a thriving community.

I have such happy memories with you, Crystal and Eric over here in the UK playing football. You were a superb role model as an athlete, team mate, husband and father and I feel privileged to have known you. A lion on the pitch and an extraordinary gentleman off the pitch. I was a young man at Johnson High School. He came to the school my senior year. I was sent to his office and was told I have to meet this man.
I´m great full because I met a great man. He looked at me and said. So, you´re the one going to break my records. I´m honored that it´ll be you. Then he said, records are meant to be broken, when you brake them set them high for the next person in line.
We had many conversations in his office, the one thing he taught me, that will forever stay with me is, "If there´s no enemy within, then the enemy outside can do you no harm." This quotes has remained with me and carried me through my dark times and will continue to carry me.
My friend you are solely missed....

I'm so sorry for the loss of this amazing man. I always carry the memories we had traveling to Africa and going on Safari, the Mexico trips, his residence in my condo in Vegas after Boulder happened. I worked with Von for almost 5 years at Copart. He was such a great person to have talks with. We used to sit down for a quick talk that turned into an hour or more so many times. Von and I worked together as principals on the Eastside of Saint Paul (Daytons Bluff/JAJ). The man was dedicated, driven and an outstanding leader. We traveled to conferences together so I got to see a lighter, humorous side as well. RIP Von Sheppard.

Von was a year older than me. I played ball with him at both SPA and Central. So many memories. I remember him telling me I needed to study the game because I needed to know where to go before anyone else because I needed a head start, due to my lack of speed. So I studied and made captain and all city the next year. I remember coach Smaller sticking a twenty to his helmet and telling us you catch him in the end zone you can keep the twenty. Von got the twenty. Von one day told me not to worry if I wasn´t the most talented because I had the most try. He made an impression. Once again I´m going to try to catch up with you Von. I´ll see you in our Father´s house.

First off I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to Von´s family! I have known Von since we ran around the halls of Murray Jr High school!!! We were just little kids trying to find our way!!! When we first meet each other we knew that we would be friends forever!! For you see it doesn´t matter how long it is in between time of our next siting! Because real friendship has no time limits!!! It is boundless...This guy Von was always smiling, an joking around!!! So calling him a prankster would be an overstatement!!! After Jr high we both went on an became partners in crime at Central high school! Where our boundless friendship would flourish! We had some amazing times just being silly kids!!! He was an amazing human being!!! The best thing I loved about Von, is that every time we saw each other he was always smiling!!! I use to tease him an say why u always smiling when u see me!!! Ha ha ha that was our lil joke with each other!!! I could go on an on with me memory´s of Von, some I may have forgotten!! But the most important ones I remember ever so clearly!!! Always the gentleman!!! Always stayed suited an booted as I teased him about that all the time!!!
