CARTHAGE — Graveside funeral services for Mr. W.C. McMillan, 97, of the Del Ray Community of Panola County, Texas, will be 2 p.m., Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Waldrop Cemetery, with Chaplain Pete Williams officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Family visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today, March 8, 2013, at the funeral home. Mr. McMillan died March 6, 2013, in Carthage, Texas.
Mr. W. C. McMillan was born May 26, 1915, in Logansport, Louisiana. He was one of four children born to the marriage of Mann and Ethel Newman McMillan. He was schooled and graduated from Logansport attending Panola Junior College. He served his country through the U. S. Army, where he served in the tank corp., receiving two purple hearts. He married Lucille Margaret Gentry December 12, 1940, and they celebrated 60 years of marriage before she preceded him in death in 2001.
W.C. worked as the Panola County treasurer, and spent many years working for the Hawthorn Life Insurance Company. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Carthage and a dedicated Berean Sunday school class member.
He is also preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Robert Hugh McMillan; and sisters, Martha Harvey and Garland Wilcox.
Mr. McMillan is survived by his sons, Ward McMillan and wife, Charlotte, of Del Ray and John Doyle McMillan and wife, Suzy, of Yorktown; brother, Lavon McMillan and wife, Willa Dean, of Waskom; sister-in-law, Frances Gentry of Orange Park, Fla.; grandchildren, Andi Allen and husband, Byron, of Hallsville and Jona Beadreaux of Youngsville, La.; great-grandchildren, Garrett Stith, Alex Allen, Natalie LaBorde, P.J. Beadreaux Jr., and Ethan Beadreaux; numerous other relatives; and a host of friends.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Alex Allen and Garrett Stith.
