Wayne was the man who lead my wife and I to the Lord. He taught me how to study the word of God and practice what I learned. I am deeply grateful for his influence on our lives.

I have many good memories of Wayne from growing up in Wisconsin. The last time I saw him, he was in seminary. He preached the Ascension Day service in our church. He began by saying one did not have to dress up so much for a midweek service. He always had a good sense of humor.

Dear Chris, I realize that Deb sent you a note already but I wanted to send something as well. We are thanking God for Wayne's and your love and friendship over the years. Lot's of great memories! We sure wanted to be there with you but decided it was best to stay here. It was a wonderful service even though we could only see the back of your head. :) What a family! We hope to stop by in person sometime soon (hopefully). Please remind Ben that it also was bagels w/Ben in Lansing. Kind of jealous of Wayne in some ways who "has arrived" home free. Praying that God will continue to carry you through this time. We love you all!

Condolences to you, Chris, and to your family. Wayne was a friend and colleague in all the years I was with Christian Reformed Home Missions, whose love, help (especially when he was on the CRC Big Board), and his bias for having a good time made everything better. Grace and peace to you all.

Pastor Wayne will be missed. I always enjoyed his sermons when he spoke at Red Arrow Ministries. His smile and laugh always lit up a room and his kind spirit was so rare in this world. I pray for his family to heal in their grief.

They say that God sends Angels and Saints to walk among us. Wayne was truly one of His Saint's here on earth. May we all have his boldness, love and the abiliity to see the good in everyone. We will miss listening to you singing praises during Sunday services and squeezing in more notes into the margins of your precious Bible. You were so proud of your family and your eyes still twinkled when they met with Chris'. Enjoy eternity, our friend. We will meet again some day.

Not exactly classmates but close enough. Wayne was always a step ahead of most of us in terms of sanctification. It wasn't a competition but his walk matched his talk. A rare find. Not an ounce of sanctimonious pride in him. Bless him on his way.

I will be forever thankful to God for placing Wayne in my orientation group at Calvin College as we began our pilgrimage of study and life together at that point. It was the gift of a lifelong friendship. Wayne was a primary influence in my surrender to God's call to me to become a missionary-pastor. I figured that if a fun loving character like Wayne could be a pastor then maybe there was room for me as well.
Wayne welcomed me into the (many adjectives) Leys family in Sheboygan already in my freshman year.
While living in distant places from one another throughout our ministry journeys - whatever the time lapse, a renewed conversation and time together was a full and immediate experience of a very special friendship.
Condolences to Chris and all the Leys tribe, and praying you will delight in countless memories that will be with you always.
Shalom,
Allen

Dear Chris, and family,
My sympathy and prayers to you all in the passing of your dear husband and dad. He was my pastor in the early 80's when my husband, John Boss, and I attended Elmhurst Church. Both of you were very instrumental in our walk with the Lord and helped us to grow stronger in our faith because of your leadership. Rev. Leys was always willing to listen and offer gentle, godly advice.
Our paths have not crossed in years, and yet Rev. Leys and you have left a mark in my life and heart.
Sincerely,
Kathy Roosma (Boss)
