Walter Flynn Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 27, 2025.
Walter Edward "Tico" Flynn, 75, passed into eternity on May 22, 2025 with his children by his side. He was born in Natick, MA to Leo A. and Helen J. (Hesek) Flynn, where he grew up with his seven siblings and an extended community of cousins. He graduated in 1968 from Marian High School in Framingham, MA where he played football, baseball and hockey. He served in the Army National Guard Reserves from 1968-1974 where he held the rank of Sergeant in the Company B, 26th Supply and Transportation Battalion. He went on to work construction, building roads and running and repairing heavy machinery. He could fix any car and loved a good challenge, often finding unique ways to solve a problem. He was a member of the American Legion, proudly serving as a color guard and even served as Commander for a year, but his favorite position was that of Chaplin.

Tico lived his life with fortitude and a pioneering spirit and had a deep faith in God. He loved the outdoors and going on adventures. He had a way of bringing laughter to any moment, often cracking jokes and lifting spirits. His happy place was the family's log cabin on Hancock Pond in North New Portland, Maine. As the family rebuilt the cabin after a fire, he made it his mission to rebuild it with passion and poured himself into every detail, tirelessly working to make it special. His very essence will live on and be felt throughout. He also spent time assisting with and staying at the Burkes' abutting camp, cousins with whom he had a special bond. When he wasn't working, he loved fishing, taking rides to the Dead River to the big eddy, going on adventures with his nephew Kevin, to spot moose and deer, sitting by the fire, drinking a Bud, doing crosswords and playing solitaire. He often listened to talk radio and liked to talk politics. Despite the health challenges he had in the last few years of his life, he never let them stop him or get him down. He forged ahead with courage, determined to live life to the fullest, making the most of every moment and found fulfillment in helping others and in his relationship with his children. The world will not be the same without him and he will be missed.

Tico is survived by his daughter Erin Pacheco (Freddie) of Cumberland, RI, his daughter Sarah Flynn of Framingham, MA, and his son, Jake (Amber) of Natick, MA; his grandchildren: Alex, Joshua, Tony and Harper, and his siblings Daniel Flynn of Plainville, John (Pudge) Flynn of Durham, NH, Patricia Bixby of Wrentham, MA, Maureen LaFauce of Framingham, MA, Virginia Flynn (Bill Maguire) of Millis, MA, Joseph Flynn (Mary) of Wayland, MA and James Flynn (Cheryl) of Millis, MA and many nieces, nephews and cousins. At Tico's request, there will be no services and burial will be private, but a celebration of life will be determined at a later date.

I was saddened to learn of Tico`s passing. It brought back a rush of memories from my youth when we shared good times at Hancock Pond at the log cabin. Tico was a fun loving young man surrounded by a terrific family.

I´m saddened to hear the news of Ticos passing. Knowing him for the past forty years has been an adventure. Between sitting by the fire with a bud and some friends at my mothers, to waiting on him at the legion. His laugh was certainly one of a kind. My condolences to his children and whole family. May Tico rest in peace!!.

One of my favorite memories of Tico was many years ago in the old Flynn log cabin.
He was up there with his friend Sully and we were listening to a cassette playing on boombox.
At some point in one of the songs, one of them said "oh, the good part is coming up"
A few seconds later, the music stops and we hear this coming out of the boom box:
Sully: What are you doing?
Tico: It's pitch F-in dark in here, I can't see the F-in buttons
A couple seconds later, the music comes back on.
We laughed so hard. The background story is that they were camping at some point in the past listening to the same cassette on a player that had a record button.
I hope you you're up there at the welcome party having a beer with Norm from Cheers
I miss you my friend!!

Rest in peace Tico, all our years in school together back to first grade at St. Patrick's in Natick - you were always fun - and yes your Dad was our milkman with Hood's. Sending peace and prayers to the family. Sincerely, Karen Anderson

So sorry to hear of your loss. Recently had lunch with Pat, my classmate through St Patrick's and Marian, class of 1963. I remember playing ball with all the Flynns on Second Street in Natick. I also remember Mr. Flynn delivering milk to my parents on Walnut St. Rest in peace Tico. Christine Anderson

I only knew him as Tico. I met him through my neighbor and good friend Mimi. He lived across the street from me for a few years and when I saw him, he´d always say hi and maybe have a little chat. I´m sad of his passing, but I believe now he is without pain. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. I miss seeing you in the neighborhood, Tico. You were always very nice to me. May you rest in peace my friend
