Walter Gavin was one of the greatest athletes I have ever known. The stories of his softball HR’s were epic. He literally hit the ball “into the night!” He hit 3 HR’s in a ASA tournament game where each went further than the last. The last one is still going over Canada somewhere! As it left the lights it was still going up over the trees in right. He was the fastest big man I ever saw. He rounded 1st out of the batter’s box. A routine single was a double for him. The Browns gave him a tryout in his late 20’s. They would have kept him playing but said 27 was too old for a rookie their loss. He would have been a modern Marion Motley. He was a mountain of a man. Very quiet, but spoke with his abilities. He sure loved those little kids! One of a kind was Walter. My memories of him will last until I move on. You go, Walter!

I am saddened to hear about my friend Walter Gavin's passing, and my condolences to the Gavin family. I have fond memories of when I played with Walter on the union's softball team. RIP my friend.

I love my brother-in-law he was my second hero next to my dad I use to be his and my sister first baby lol I had him in the palm of my hands because I knew he loved my sister so much but to make her happy was to make me happy he bought me everything I wanted I got my first favorite toy from him and I will never forget the love he bestowed towards us gone But never forgotten never
