I met Walt and Mimi while on the Cayman Diver. At the end of their second trip they invited me to visit them in Las Cruces. I did and they took me diving in Mexico as well as numerous trips photographing the desert around Las Cruces. After a year or two Walt suggested that I move out and go to grad school in Las Cruces. Walt´s generosity shaped my career and life. I´m forever thankful.

I had the great privilege of knowing Walt as a colleague, friend, and mentor during the many years I lived and worked in the peaceful beauty of southern New Mexico. The time we spent together-hiking the Organ Mountains, sharing stories, and enjoying a beer-will always remain with me. My thoughts are with you, Mimi and Lori. I miss Walt deeply, and I miss all of you.

I have fond memories of working with Walt during the early 1990s at the Army Research Labs. Both being mathematicians, we thought alike on our joint research on laser propagation. My wife and I also enjoyed our boating trips and picnics with Walt and Mimi. Great times!
