Walter Ottmar

Walter Ottmar, 86, died January 23, 2006, of heart failure in an Everett hospital. He was born April 17, 191,9 in Wheeler, Grant County, Washington, to John Ottmar and Amelia Miller Ottmar. At an early age he moved with his family to Harrington, Lincoln County, Washington, where they farmed south of town.
Walter graduated from Harrington High School in 1936, and from Eastern Washington University in 1939. Following college he worked as a carpenter in Lincoln County and at the Bremerton Naval Yard during World War II. Later he became manager of Standard Lumber Company in Harrington and Colfax, Washington. He finished his working career as an agent for the Washington State Department of Revenue in Kennewick, Washington.
On December 6, 1941, he married Linda Doering, of Odessa, Washington, and Kennewick. They were married nearly 63 years before she died in 2004. In Harrington Walter was a member of the Lions Club and the Masonic Lodge. After leaving Kennewick where they had lived for nearly 40 years, Walter and Linda moved to Marysville, Washington, to be nearer to their sons and family. While in Marysville Walter joined the Mountain View Presbyterian Church.
Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Linda, whom he was devoted to during her long illness; his parents; and his two brothers, Alvin of Harrington, and Ruben, of Davenport, Washington.
He leaves sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Sandy Ottmar, of Edmonds, Washington, and Neal and Linda Ottmar, of Kenmore, Washington; two grandchildren, Jeff Ottmar, of Northport, New York, and Stacie Gorder of Kirkland, Washington; three great-grand-children, Marin, Isaak, and Cole; sister-in-law, Elsie Ottmar, of Pullman, Washignton; and three nieces, Ronda Kimble, of Colton, Washington, Jayne Beauchene of Yakima, Washington, and Becky Anderson of Quilcene, Washington.
Walt was a passionate golfer and gardener. He made friends easily and loved nothing better than a good visit. His immediate and extended family were very special to him.
Private family graveside services were held Thursday, January 26, at Restlawn Cemetery Edmonds, with Walter's niece, Rev. Becky Ottmar Anderson, presiding. A memorial service is planned for 3 p.m., Sunday, March 5, at Mountain View Presbyterian Church, 5115 100th N.E., Marysville, 360-659-7777.

Roger -- We were so sorry to read in the Everett Herald today (2/21/06) of your father's passing away on 1/23/06. This e-mail "Guest Book" is quite something...hope you get our message. Know, Roger, that many hearts are with you hoping you will have the strength you need to get through this most difficult time. Nothing can ever replace the wisdom, advice and love of your father. May you find comfort in remembering all the guidance, strength and love with which your father touched your life. Those precious gifts will always live on in you. Reading that he lived in Marysville, know he must have loved sharing your basketball coaching successes and you must have loved having him nearby to share them with.

Be sure to give Sandy our best. Chatted with Patty (Yellam) Barber recently...she is still teaching at Olympia High School in the business dept. I am still substitute teaching in Snohomish and Arnold still has our real estate office on Highway 2 between Snohomish and Monroe. Three of our four are still in college....Henley is a senior at Univ. of Penn. in Philly, Hale is a junior at the UW and Haley is a soph. at Trinity Univ. in San Antonio. One of our fav. restaurants is the Cafe de Paris in Edmonds down by the ferry terminal....send me your and Sandy's cell nos. and e-mail addresses and we'll give you two a call the next time we are down there and we can all get together.

Again, Roger, it is our prayer that God's presence, your endless fond memories of your dad, and the love of your family and friends will give you the strength to meet each new day. With sympathy, Marilyn and Arnold (cell-- 425-308-3432)
