Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 22 to Apr. 25, 2021.
Walter John Trant
Walter John "Sandy" Trant was born to Jack and Betty Trant August 27th, 1948 in Hastings, Nebraska. After attending college, he entered the Air Force and proudly served for over 15 years and earned the rank of Captain. His service included time flying in RF-4s, and it was in that capacity he was bestowed the callsign "Sandman" from which his nickname was derived. He was an avid gun enthusiast and enjoyed the outdoors, particularly during a stint in Anchorage, Alaska. Austin became his home upon retirement from the Air Force, and he subsequently enjoyed working many years for Southwest Airlines. Sandy died April 12th, 2021 and is survived by his son Justin Trant of College Station, daughter Melissa Trant of Austin, grandchildren Stockton Trant, Jamal Smith, Caymen Smith and Amani Moore, sister Teresa Newton and brother Jerry Trant. A celebration of life will follow his inurnment when circumstances permit.
