YOUNG _ Walter McGee (Wally), B.A. (Geol.), P.Eng. Passed away on January 9, 2004 at home with his family beside him after a very courageous battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Joan; loving father of Janet and her husband John Spence; proud grandpa of Douglas, Adam and Olivia. Predeceased by sister Isobel, two brothers, Arthur (Bud) and Alex. Also survived by nieces, nephews and extended families in Canada and U.S.A. Wally was born in Vancouver, B.C. on August 6, 1925. He joined the RCN in 1944 and served overseas until 1947. He graduated from U.B.C. with a B.A. (Geol.) and started his career in Calgary where he met and married Joan in 1954 and departed for Brazil in 1955. He was an exploration geologist in Salvador, Bahia and later in Rio de Janerio. In 1959 he travelled to a new contract with Tenaco Oil (U.S.A.) Argentina. Worked in Buenos Aires from 1959 to 1962, then back to Tierra del Fuego for a further two years. He was transferred to Calgary in 1964 and remained until 1970. He accepted a position with the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources for the Province of B.C. as Chief Geologist, retiring in 1987 as Director of Geology. He later worked as a consultant in Calgary for several years. Wally was a long-time member of Uplands Golf Club. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and always offered a helping-hand whenever needed. He always had a special sense of humour. He will be sadly missed by his many friends and colleagues. Special thanks to Drs. Ludgate, McClean and Forster for their care and compassion; also nurses, Judith and Linda and staff of palliative care and Hospice. Memorial Service will take place at McCALL BROS. Floral Chapel, Johnson and Vancouver Streets, Victoria on Friday, January 16, 2004 at 1:00 p.m., with a reception to follow at the Uplands Golf Club.
