Walton Fleming III Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 16, 2024.
Walton Clem Fleming III was born in Houston, Texas on December 29, 1947, to his parents Lou and Walton Clem Fleming Sr and his sister Nancy McLeroy. On August 28, 2024, Walton Clem Fleming III left us unexpectedly to be with his parents in Heaven; he is survived by his sister Nancy McLeroy and his two daughters Lindsey Smith and Kelly Fleming.

Walt lived to design buildings and admire architecture; he loved to be in the kitchen, ride his bike and more than anything he loved to play with his dog Jack. He was a devoted Christian man that rarely missed a service and proudly sang the Lord's praises, even though he was off key. Walt was a successful and admired architect; he was a hard worker, always staying up way after everyone else to work on his drawings. He wasn't the fun dad, he was the dad that taught his daughters to budget money, have morals and to not chase boys. He had a lot of sayings he taught us girls like "don't get mad, go get dad" and "don't do the crime if you can't pay the time". Walt, although he was a serious person, had a prankster side that he didn't ever quite grow out of and he was happy to be a part of a prank when presented with the opportunity. He also loved to make memories with/for people, even if he knew they would not appreciate it just yet, he was wise enough to know that one day these things would matter. Walt was a very loyal and forgiving person, that stood up for what he thought was right, he was a loving and generous person, he lived life believing the way to teach someone is to lead by example.

Walt, you will be missed but the teachings you instilled in us all will live on.

Please come celebrate the life of Walton Clem Fleming III with us. We will gather on Saturday, October 12th from 1-5PM at The Taylor Mansion 2109 E 4th St, Taylor, TX 76574.

Walt and I first became friends when we were on the same Little League team when we were eight years old. We later went to the same junior high and high schools, and then in 1967 became Acacia Fraternity brothers at the University of Texas (see photo). Walt was a good friend, a good guy, and a good first baseman, and he will be missed by all those with whom he came in contact. RIP, brother.

I had the pleasure of working with Walton/Walt for about 13 yrs. at Schlotzsky's Inc. He was a fun person who worked in the role of our key architect/professional that knew the all details and requirements necessary to grow our dynamic Franchise Restaurant concept. I considered Walt a personal friend that I will sincerely miss.

Walton was part of our corporate growth Team that was responsible for successfully expanding the Schlotzsky's Deli concept from 110 to 750 restaurants World-Wide. Cordially, Karl D. Martin, former Senior V.P. of Marketing and Franchise Development.
