Walton Henkel Obituary
Born May 30, 1924 in Stuarts Draft, he was the son of the late Homer Lee Henkel, Sr. and Edith Izora (Mitchell) Henkel. On July 5, 1947 he married Mary Katherine Ambler, she preceded him in death on June 19, 2017.
Walton was a lifelong member of Calvary United Methodist Church and very active in the church's food bank. He also dedicated 25 years of service to the Stuarts Draft Volunteer Fire Department. He was a U.S. Army veteran and honorably served his country in the European Theater during WWII. Walton was employed by the former E.I. DuPont Company and retired after 35 faithful years.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Elizabeth A. Henkel; great grandson, Jackson Henkel; two sisters, Phyllis M. Henkel and Hazel H. Cohron; seven brothers, Lyle L., James Marion, Harry H., Homer Lee, Jr., Charles L., William R. and Reginald G. Henkel.
He is survived by his son, Donald Henkel (Darlene); daughters, Barbara H. Einecker (Don), Sarah H. Ferguson (Tom) and Angie H. Mace (Don). He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A graveside service with military honors be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Calvary United Methodist Church Cemetery, Stuarts Draft, with the Rev. Charles Reynolds officiating. All attendees are asked to meet directly at the cemetery.

Our unofficial "Mayor of Stuarts Draft" on High Street will no longer grace our porches with his wisdom and wit, and we will miss him. Walton was so much a part of the scene on our road that it's difficult to believe he's gone. He was a character, a country boy, a military man, and a delight to those who knew him.

Walt was a gentle, and funny man. He and my husband always picked on each other. He will be missed. He loved everyone and is now in heaven joining his wife and daughter. RIP Walt. Love you.

I fondly remember dad bowling with " Henkel" at the Dupont Rec department many years ago. He always sported a sweet smile. With loving memories.
