Wanda Marie Cooke, 94, was called home by her Heavenly Father on Thursday December 22, 2022.
Born in Iowa, Louisiana to John Fredrick Cooke and Edith May Lightner Cooke, Miss Cooke was a 1946 graduate of Iowa High School. She worked for Muller’s Department Store for thirty-six years, retiring in 1985 as Manager of the Customer Service Department. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Lake Charles for over forty years and taught Sunday School in the preschool department, sharing her love for Jesus with little ones. She enjoyed flower gardening and was a loving caregiver for her three beloved sisters before they went home to be with the Lord. Miss Cooke also enjoyed traveling in her earlier years with her sisters and brothers-in-law. During the last several years of her life, she traveled to meet with her niece and nephews, Becky and Dennis Carteaux and Joe Cooke, Jr.
Those left to mourn her loss and cherish her memory are her faithful nieces Jeanie Landry and husband Larry of Sulphur, Marie & Jose DelaRosa, Kaley Landry and a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Miss Cooke was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Helen Cooke, Emily O. Kline and Viola Moore; and brothers, Joseph A., Elbert, and Howard Cooke.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM on Thursday December 29, 2022 at Johnson Funeral Home. Pastor Johnny Dammon will officiate. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
The family would like to express their grateful appreciation for the compassionate care given their beloved aunt to the doctors, nurses and staff of the ICU at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.
