Michael Kissel Fowks, age 82 passed away peacefully due to respiratory failure, surrounded by his family on April 7, 2015 in Kansas City, MO. Mike was born on March 13, 1933 in Joplin, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Ruth Fowks, and sister Patty Fowks. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sally Fowks and brother William Fowks (Martha and son Billy) of Joplin, MO. Mike served in the military in 1953 and 1954. He graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia with a degree in accounting. There he met his wife Sally Rogers Fowks whom he married on June 30, 1956. From that union he was blessed with 4 children, Deborah Scroggin (William) Michael B Fowks (Sheila), Mary Melissa Wiese (Andy) and Amy Fowks Macken (Joe). Sally and family, we wanted to let you know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
Remembering the help when I refurbished Dicks office furniture with new leather upholstery back when we were newlyweds. (early 70s). Also the original sailing club down on Grand Lake. May your many happy memories bring you comfort.

Dear Sally and family. We were very sad to hear of Mike's passing. We were happy to have visited with you both last September at Misty's and Andy's in Redwood Valley. We remember the fun we all had celebrating with the whole family on your 50th anniversary cruise. We send our love and sympathy to everyone in the family. We will miss Mike.

Dearest Fowks family and clan- my deepest sympathies for Mike's passing. I have so many great memories of Mike as he was like my dad #2. He was a wry, smiling, witty, strong, stable as a rock, unflappable man. He was so patient and kind. He was always tinkering with something and had a beautiful curiosity. He was not only a jack of all trades of sorts - he was a master of many. He was also a great sailor. My dad told me the story of when they were sailing one day way out in the middle of the lake, a terrible storm was coming in, but Mike didn't blink twice. As the rain and wind descended upon them and the boat was on it's side, nearly flipping over and they were all hanging on for dear life (literally!), Mike held the helm like a true master and unflinchingly and confidently with almost a whistle on his lips, got them through the storm safely. What a great lesson of life that is to me. I know my mom and dad are greatly rejoicing in seeing their long time friend. I am praying for your entire family (and many prayers for Sally), and I hope that peace and comfort, joy and healing will come to all xo.

I am grateful for the life of Mr. Fowks. Thanks to his service and to the service of others in our armed forces, my family and I have been able to lead our lives in freedom and peace.

Dear Sally,
It is with a real sadness that we learned of Mike's passing. I learned to sail on the "Sally J" with Mike and Melzacher. It was a treat especially when Mike would jump into the main sail. We have so many great memories of you and Mike at Grand Lake Sailing Club. Wish we could hug you and tell all the stories we have.
Mike and Celie Mayer xoxo
