Wanda Simmons Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 6, 2024.
Wanda J. Simmons, age 78, passed away January 8, 2024. She had been sick for two years battling Lyme's Disease.

Wanda was born in Akron, Ohio. She graduated from East High School in 1963 and obtained a Secretarial Science degree in 1965 from the University of Akron. She married, had two daughters and eventually settled in North Carolina. She graduated from the University of Fayetteville with a Bachelors Degree in Sociology and moved to Raleigh to attend NC State University to obtain her Master's Degree. She took a position with Center for Urban Affairs and Community Services where she worked for 30 years with the Applied Research Group, working on many studies to gain information to help improve the lives of NC citizens. She was very proud of her work on School Bus Safety. Wanda enjoyed staying busy with many crafts, sewing, crocheting, macramé, ceramics and oil painting. She was a great bowler and bowled with many women's leagues.

Wanda is preceded in death by her parents and a sister, her husband and a daughter. She is survived by her brother, Butch; her daughter, Michelle; her son-in-law, Sal; her grandsons, Anthony and Ethan; two great grandchildren, Atlas and Elowen and several nieces and nephews. Her two grandsons were with her at her passing. She will be missed by many friends, including two longtime friends, Sara and Art, who have been very supportive during this tough time.

A Celebration of Life will be held later this year. Wanda had a great interest in curing Alzheimer's and in lieu of flowers, would love donations made in her name.
