Virgil "Warren" Johnson

July 24, 1932

July 31, 2021

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2021, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Warren was born in Chino, California on July 24, 1932, the third of six children born to Virgil Manson Johnson and Gladys Ritter Johnson. They were a family, in which hard work was simply the way one lived. Warren came from a farming background. Warren often said, "There were times in my growing up years I thought we were poor, but I learned later that was not true. We just didn't have any money. We were rich in the things that were important to our lives at that time, family, good friends, and happiness."

Warren attended Meridian High School in Meridian, Idaho. There he met, dated, and fell in love with his high school sweetheart, the love of his life, Roberta Calhoun, whom he married on October 2, 1951, in Boise, Idaho. They would become parents of 4 children, Doug, Brad, Patty, and Jeff. Warren's role as a father was always one of his priorities. He found and made time for his children. Warren served in the US Navy, aboard the USS Collette DD730, from January 1951 to January 1955, during the Korean conflict. Upon returning home he enrolled in Boise State College to study accounting and became employed at Dixon Paper Company. He later was transferred (in January 1966) to Dixon Paper Company in Colorado Springs, Colorado, as the internal manager and later as a salesman where he was employed until he retired in 1985 at 53 years of age. His home was the center of his life.

Warren was a member and served in numerous callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a devoted servant in his callings. He had a deep testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ; he knew it was true.

Throughout his life, he was constantly striving to improve. He always thought of himself as an ordinary man embarked on the journey of life with his sweetheart of 70 years. Somehow, he always had an appropriate and humorous response to almost any situation. He taught by his example, and he was an inspiring example to all his family. A great man has fallen, an empty place has opened against the sky. He leaves to his immediate family of 113 members and to all who knew him a legacy of love and gratitude for the life he lived and shared.

He is survived by his loving, devoted wife, Roberta, his four children, Doug (Michaelanne) of Colorado Springs, Brad (Jill) of Layton, Utah, Patty (Robert) of Loveland, and Jeff (Tracie) of Colorado Springs, along with 26 grandchildren and 57 great-grandchildren. A sister, Eva Bailey of Meridian, Idaho. Warren was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Gladys Johnson, three brothers, Kenneth, Donald, and Gerald, and a sister, Judith Ann Kroesing.

A service is scheduled for 9:30am, Thursday August 5, 2021 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 4955 Meadowland Boulevard, Colorado Springs, CO 80918. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery at 11:00am.

What an amazing man and dear friend in brother Warren Johnson! Truly the epitome of what it means to be a saint.

Long are the memories that Lucy and I hold dear to our hearts in memorial to this great man. Our lives have and are still enriched because of Warren.

I know that while we will weep because of his departure, heaven smiles and even now laughs with Warren while he tells yet another joke or makes a comment to someone to uplift them, all done within the way that only Warren can.

Farewell for now our friend and brother. While you will be sorely missed by all who love you, we know all too well, that you will not be resting on your laurels for very long.

May Heavenly Father bless the Johnson home during this saddened time of their earthy life.

All our love Lyle (Joe) and Lucy (Woodruff) Tuoti

May our Heavenly Father wrap his loving arms around Roberta and her family at this time of grief and reassure them of His constant and abiding love for them! We always enjoyed being with Warren and Roberta and will remember his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. Warren was a wonderful example of how to give the gift of selfless service to those who were mourning or in need of his help, and for that we will forever be grateful!! May his family find strength knowing there are so many of us who will always remember Warren's everlasting love for them and for the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
