ATIYEH, Wasfi Anton "Wes," of Richmond, passed away January 5, 2012. Born in Lebanon in 1925, he graduated from the American University of Beirut Medical School. After completing his residency at MCV, he started his private practice in the west end. He was also a clinical professor at MCV in the department of Otolaryngology. After many years of private practice, he returned to MCV as a full time faculty member before retiring in 2000. He obtained his Specialty Board Certification and was later inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). He was a fellow of the American College of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.He was a member of the Richmond Academy of Medicine, the Medical Society of Virginia and the American Medical Association. He served as a board member and chief of the medical staff at Richmond Eye and Ear Hospital. He also served as past president of the Virginia Society of Otolaryngology. He was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Richmond and participated in their tutoring program at Albert Hill Middle School. He was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and The Country Club of Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jackie Atiyeh; three children, Benita Miller and her husband Michael, Karen Stephens and her husband Scott, and Wes Atiyeh and his wife Cyndi; four grandchildren, Carter and Thomas Stephens, Anne Miller and Andrew Atiyeh; sister, Marian Shammas and her family of Lebanon; sister-in-law, Rosemarie Atiyeh and her family of South Africa. The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at 106 Tonbridge Rd. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, followed immediately by a reception at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 6000 Grove Ave., Richmond, Va. 23226 or Richmond Eye and Ear Foundation, 8700 Stony Point Pkwy., Suite 100, Richmond, Va. 23235.

To the Family of Dr. Atiyeh:

The Albert H. Hill Middle School family was very saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Wes Atiyeh. Dr. Atiyeh served as a very dedicated and highly respected tutor at our school for many years and made a positive impact upon the lives of our students. Our most sincere prayers and thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this most difficult time.

Wes,you were a tremendous friend to all of the Virginia Leadership Academy members from the 2005 inaugural class! You were a confidant, a friend, a dad, a doctor, a golf instructor, a leader!
